Virus Alert

A new variant of the "Bagel" virus is making the rounds, and I've been getting emails with Wallie addresses that I know you didn't send. Our antivirus is stopping it, but be careful when you open any emails, and update your Norton or McAfee. It spreads by email attatchments, beware of .zip files or attatchments ending im .com,.exe,.cpl or.scr. They may have a Wallie name as the sender.

I keep getting messages regarding undeliverable e-mails that I did not send. If we could only harness the knowledge these hackers have and put it to better use, the world would be a better place.

    Just checked

my hotmail (no comments Scott) and there were three curious messages with attachments.

Deleted them all, which is what I have finally accepted as the only solution.

everyone should be using a good anti virus protection program with automatic updates. I get no less than 5 attacks a day from spyware programs..........

    Following vacation

last night we returned & I checked e-mail.

157 virus laden messages, 493 spam messages & 198 legit messages, 1/2 of which were alerts regarding the ones locked up in the filtering software jail. Delete, delete. delete......

Never open an attachment you did not specifically request & even then - save it to a disc so you can scan it for viruses before activating.

During times like this I send Nothing with attachments unless I have notified the receiver that I am sending something.

What a waste of time, and how sad that these people can't do something productive.

    It is extremely aggravating!

I have received lots of bounced messages claiming my domain as their originator. I guess it was my mistake to converse with folks that use windows machines (hee hee), since the most successful spam virii seem to all rely on Outlook, MS Windows, or a combination thereof. Never mind the spyware, adware, etc. that plagues Internet Explorer users.

In short, I am glad I use a Mac, though I'm sure that if the OS was more popular that someone might get around to writing a virus for it. In the meantime, I recommend everyone get a hardware router (keeps the network-based nasties out), update their virii software daily, and DO NOT assume anything about the "originator" of any message as the header information may be forged. Consider changing your browser to something better like Mozilla or Firefox, your e-mail client to anything but Outlook.

In a just world, we'd track down the malcontents that create these virii and put them on a prison island with hard labor. However, we'd also hold the companies that publish operating systems + software to a higher standard WRT to security and susceptability.
