I thought I'd share a poem for you wet heads..I enjoy reading old books and magazines and every once in awhile I come across a good poem..I think it is pretty good...

The Furnace

By Tink

Furnace heating, though old, is living yet,

And ‘tis many of year since the first one was set.

Through mistakes and queer notions its long life as run,

Yet promises fair to continue right on;

Quite holding its own with many of scheme,

Such as heating with gas, hot water and steam,

And pipes in the streets, through which heat may pass,

And go through a meter tremendously fast.

‘Tis a wonder it lives in these fast, later days,

When Steam, Hot Water and other new ways

Are pitted against it by men who deride

Its old fashioned features; with arrogant pride

Praise their new systems quite up to the skies,

And tell what moist air from their heaters do arise.

It sets me to thinking, and the longer I do,

I wonder greatly why it is true

That in old age, prolonged to such length,

It contains to have such remarkable strength,

Increasing with years, to the dreadful dismay

Of my hot water friend just over the way.

So I take extra pains satisfaction to give,

That my old friend the furnace may prosper and live.

And I tell all men that give me the chance,

That are they but willing to half the expense

That hot water plants are well known to cost,

Not beat me down, and let me be boss,

I will warm their house perfect for many a day

With a good hot-air furnace in the old fashioned way.

Bud, would you be able to scan the original? I'd love to add it to the Library. Thanks.
