De superheaters

about using the discharge of an A/C unit to heat domestic hot water through a flat plate heat exchanger. What kind of superheat do you have coming off a compressor? I remember seeing a product that packaged a flat plate and a small circulator and controls just for this purpose. I never saw it again. Does anyone know of such a product? Does it work and is it worthwhile? WW

This is interesting
In my house in FL, we modified the air to water AC to use pool water. The ground water caused too much buildup in the heat exchanger.
So I added a small pump, pulled pool water off the bottom of the pool and ran it back into the hot tub where it then flowed back into the pool. Kept the hot tub ready for night time soaks for the back. In the winter the pool water would pick up enough solor gain to supply heat to the system in heat mode. Since the pool water was always balanced and clean- no more heat exchanger clogs.
Too bad I don't remember the operating numbers but "de superheater" (sorry, I had to do that) worked really well. One year though the biggest lightning storm blew all sorts of stuff up.0 -
