    bagpipes

I lived in Cincinnati in the early 90's. Awoke one Sunday morning & decided to take our yellow lab hiking at a park called Sharon Woods. The park has a short but beautiful trail that runs through a ravine, with picturesque stream. It was very foggy that morning & shortly after entering the woods i began to here bagpipes, I could not see more than 10 feet in any direction just kept following the trail & the sound (kind of freeky considering the surroundings and time,7-7:30am). Having an over active imagination (& a love for history) it felt like a scene out of the "Last of the Mohicans", I kept looking for warriors clad in kilts (Black Watch?) It was a beautiful way to start a day and a memory with my friend (yellow lab Bailey see previous post)I shall never forget.

    No, she's from Japan

but she's the same type of girl, without the red hair. In the words of yet another poet, she's "the one I thought I'd never find".

I always liked "Wild Billy's Circus Story" since Bruce did it a little differently from the other songs on "The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle". If you listen to "Mary Queen of Arkansas" and then to "The Rising" you can see how far he has come.

    More sounds

The sound of one my kids sighing in their sleep. Kids laughing. The train or the fog horn. The bell tolling the hour from the town hall. Since 9/11 the sound of jets heading to the local airport.

    Music to my ears

I will vote for a distant train whistle on a bitter cold Winter night.

The sound of my son laughing with glee.

The strains of a Jerry Garcia guitar solo (ala Tennessee Jed)

The sound of my Boxer (Ozzie) snoring at night.

The first time I hear "Silent Night" during Christmas time.

    Last night

As I sat with my brother-in-law, sipping on a beer in his backyard in the great "up North" country of Interlochen, Michigan, I heard another of my favorite sounds -- nothing. It was totally quiet. Niiiice.

    Favorite sounds.......

Ah yes the sounds of little ones, no matter what age.

This past Saturday my 20 year old "wet-head" son, telephoned me after being away at sea for 56 days. His words "I love you dad I just want to come back home", still echo in my head. Due back this week, he asked if both my wife and I will be there when his ship returns. Of course!

    Pipes.

What a great picture you have painted Jim, it sounds like a scene from Brigadoon.
    Kind regards.
    Jimmy.

Just one of my favotite sounds...

Has to be the sound of the game of horseshoes. The clang of the shoe striking the post...the laughter of the uncles and cousins...playing on the 4th of July with family and friends behind our house brought back the memories of great extended family picnics from many years ago.

    My favorite sound

It has to be "We are now entering United States air space and will be landing shortly." Coming back home from the Middle East after you have been there for 130+ days, it sounds great. The worst sound has to be air sirens. I can sleep though a tornado, but when they have a practice test of the air sirens here at home, I wake up right away.
