    easy drill

#1 start off with carbide tip 1/4" driil, driil through finish to cast iron.
#2 use 1/4" high speed driil go through cast iron.
#3 get cabide tiped hole saw ( size you want hole ) start drill using pilot hole made allready.
    slow and steady.
    allways works for me....

is right on. It's a two step process with two different drills. The carbide cuts cleanly through the glaze, then any good holesaw takes it from there. Cast iron is fairly soft and easy to cut.

Watch your drill speed to prevent burning. Safety glasses, and brace youself and drill to prevent an embarassing snag and launch. Or worse a skid mark across the top of the sink :) I've been down both of those roads!

Most good tool supply shops have the combo.

    Diamond hole saw

If it something your going to do on a regular basis, I would invest in a diamond hole saw. I bought a 11/4" for about $80 and was worth every penny.

    The EASY way...

I don't know where you're at, but in Denver, Water Systems, Inc will drill the extra hole for you (for a minimal charge) If they screw it up, THEY eat it, not you...

    My little trick

I place a disposable coffee cup over the hole saw to catch all the metal shavings. J.Lockard
