Oil Heat Cares Spectacular Seminar!

Last summer, Judy Garber and I were on the Acela Express out of New York on our way to Boston for the big New England Fuel Institute show. Judy is the Executive Director of the National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers, and a good friend. We were talking about organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and what good things they do, and then somewhere in Connecticut, we came up with the idea of Oil Heat Cares. Simply put, it's a way for people in the oil heating side of the industry to help others in their communities who need a hand, and all the while having fun. The concept was to put the chapters of the National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers in competition with each other for the Oil Heat Cares Cup, which would be similar to the Stanley Cup (a movable trophy that you get to have your name on), only you don't have to lose your teeth to win it. Whichever chapter did the most good for others during the year would win the cup and get to gloat. But beyond the trophy, there would be the good deeds, and the camaraderie, and that's what matters most. Competitors working together to help people in their communities who really need a hand right now.

So that was the grand idea. The details of how we would actually do this would follow, and brighter minds than mine have since worked all that out. In a nutshell, each NAOHSM chapter will propose a local project, get approval from a review board and then do the job. Oil Heat Cares will provide the funds to buy the equipment, and the members will volunteer their labor.

So far, we've raised thousands of dollars for Oil Heat Cares and the projects are starting to roll in. Folks who have fallen on tough times are going to find local people in our industry who are willing to help them. And here's how you can help us help them, while helping yourself.

As a way of raising funds, NAOHSM has put together a spectacular two-day event scheduled for October 6 & 7 at the Holiday Inn, BWI Airport in Baltimore, MD. We have corporate sponsors, and all of the speakers are donating their time. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event will go into the Oil Heat Cares fund to buy the equipment to help people in need.

The seminettes (each lasting about two hours) will take place from 8 AM until 5 PM. Right after the last session on the first day (October 6), we're going to have a party, and the proceeds from that will also go into the fund. In addition, there will be raffles and auctions, and lots of ways to get some great deals. And all of that money will go into the pot.

At this point, the speakers include, Alan Mercurio, George Lanthier, John Levey, Bob Hedden, Jim Peters, Dave Yates, and myself. The topics will be announced, and there will be other speakers as well.

You can sign up for one or both days, or just come for the party on the evening of the 6th and buy yourself a mug. Tickets are just $99 per day, and you can register by calling 888-552-0900 or go to the NAOHSM website and click on the Oil Heat Cares Seminar button, which you'll find on the right-hand menu. You'll get an amazing couple of days, filled with great ideas and solid information, and you'll also be helping people who really need help right now. Thanks for being a part of this.
Retired and loving it.
