I had to put in a 47-2 M/M today..It had a over fill prob. Bad float and just rotted..The tech. though it also had a bad vent because only 1 rad. puked water..Bring !A vvent and found it to be a Vac. system w/Hoffman and B&J Return Line traps..1 rad also had a 1A w/ the trap..I say their fix to a bad trap! How do you test a vac. system to make sure all rad are OK ...What is the best setting in oz.?All rad.seem to heat but want to be sure! Why did only 1 rad. puke water w/the overfill??? Thankyou all in advance...Richard

    Is it Vacuum...

or Vapor? Were there any other devices in the piping around the boiler? The answers will help us identify the system and suggest a solution. Post photos if you can.

    It's Hoffman Vapor

covered in chapter 15 of "The Lost Art of Steam Heating". Check all the traps to see if any are letting steam into the dry return, including the crossover traps at the ends of the steam mains. Use a BIG vent on top of the Differential Loop- I like the Gorton #2. Remove the vents from the radiators and plug the openings, crank the Pressuretrol down and it should work great!
