I heard that Energy Recovery Ventilators are code w' new construction in Canada. Is this true? Anyone have experience w' installing these? Seems like a nice after sale should they provide fresh conditioned air. They seem like glorified economizers.....

In Canada, a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) is required, not an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV).
I suppose you could call an HRV a "glorified economizer" but I think you'll notice some important differences in the explanation below.
HRV Operation
An Energy Recovery Ventilator is similar, but more complex and expensive as it also "works" with humidity. ERVs are generally used in cooling-only or mixed climates.0
