Here are some shots of the retired steam boiler from one of the school buildings. I met a couple of people that in their younger days had the summer job of climbing into the firebox to clean the boiler. Only requirement for the job- fit thru the door!

    ????

How long had the old boiler been in service?

    What size was it?

    What's going back in?

That was the Cadillac of boilers in its day, and according to Frank Gerety it was still one of the most efficient out there.

    What's going in?

    Some additional details

I do not know the date it went into service but will find out. It was a bit tired with mud ring partly plugged and a 1x6 inch piece missing in a section.
Was 20 sections, first fired on #6 and then converted to #2.

Two Smith 19a-w-7 boilers are going to replace the steamer. To be fired with Carlin 702 CRD controlled by Tekmar 268 so it will have 4 stages of fire: B1 Lo-Hi + B2 Lo-Hi. Piped P/S with Indirect hot water.

The school is the Jewitt School in Bucksport ME. It is being rehabbed for multi-purpose use- school, adult school, Head Start, and various community things. We are very pleased to be able to have the facility and I will be taking pics as the work progresses.
