blowing hot air

I cut my teeth on old burners, shellheads, rotary, GE downfire.....you know, all the old stuff. I am enthused w'
older steamers and "the Lost Art of Steam Heat" was (and is)
my bible. Since I went in business though.......Air is where it's at! All new construction (or most) want A/C.
New England can be pretty darn humid. I'm a little miffed at the term 'scorched air'. If you run your finger slowly across a candles' flame, you won't get scorched. The pressure drop, friction loss and duct sizes are key. ECM makes a great steam humidifier (ECM Controls.com). they have a ten year warranty and very little maintenance. Blower performance is critical as well as 'mod' controls for the different fan speeds. Slightly oversized high returns w' low supply ducts makes for a quiet, comfortable system. 'Waterair" systems make it even easier to add A/C to an existing hydronic system. Air has increased my business ten fold. I can imagine that when hydronic systems began to eclipse steam what 'the guys' said about steam. Air systems are not the do-all, end-all to heat but don't close yourselves off to something that is still a great option.

In the midwest we need extreme heating and humidification with extreme cooling and dehumidification seasonally.
IAQ in tight houses, humidification, AC, ... air movement is part of our trade. Exhaust, intake, HRV's, hydro coils, chillers, ... conditioned air isn't necessarily scorched. Ducts are needed even with no AC.0
