Any of you old timers remember Doc Radiant????

Guess who I just had lunch with :-)

Maybe I'll send a T-shirt to the first person to give me Doc's REAL FULL name and location (current)

Oh my gawd - an original hammer thumper! Bob, it looks like it saw some service - how did it work out? Another potential meal ticket to Fame, Fortune and Early Retirement that took off like an Edsel.....

Cheese! You're still "it" dude! I'm at the S/F office today.

    Zone Valve Hammer

Ever have a job with Honeywell zone valves that hammered when they closed?

Well, a long time ago (in another life), I figured if someone could make a control that wired between the zone valves end switches and the T-T on the circ relay, so that when any one end switch opened it would temporarily open the T-T terminals (and drop out the circ), that water hammer could not POSSIBLY occur if the circ was not running as the zone valve slammed closed. I had an electronics guy design and build a circuit to do just that. It worked. We received a U.S. Patent on the control.

Honeywell was unimpressed (no meal ticket to retirement).

I suspect the whole problem goes away by "pumping away" anyway. Maybe someone can confirm?

    Confirmation..............

I can confirm that Honeywell had not heard of this issue of ZV's closing and creating banging noises:)They were a bit unconcerned when I described this issue(15 years ago or better).Although they did suggest removing a spring may slow the shutting process.

Interesting that the MAN wouldn't bite on a remedy.....ehhhhh(talk about denial). As far as pumping away and banging.......I always installed my ZV's on the supply side, taught that way.I found that this was the best recipie for banging.Moving the ZV's was suggested to me by another contractor and I listened. This seemed to correct the banging substantially even with the pump on the return..........pupming into the PONPC.When using ZV's now I am installing slow opening/closing valves.Example would be the Danfoss or Braukmann disc style.Typically I use juice sucking SUV style pump zoned manifolding.I find I have the least amount of callback trouble. And thats......OK:)

Its nice to see your words Doc.And I'm happy for your success!Your a great kid.........don't ever change:)!

    It's good to be back...

    ...among old friends!

BTW, I'm now the sales manager for Slant/Fin's Terra Therma line of radiant heating products, so I am reprising an old role. We have a great team here at S/F with Amir, Noel, George and the rest of the S/F crew. I'm both pleased and honored to have been invited to be part of it!
