We are considering taking on the Biasi boiler line. Anyone have any experience or comments on them?

    Seems like

a good line . A lot of folks in my neighborhood swear by them

I would make sure your comfortable that the importer is gonna be around for a while because the warranty depends on him!!

Williamson was around for 100 years, and then........? You seem to have this nagging worry about QHT. They've(Jim) been around for quite a few years, and continue to grow, innovate, and improve. What's a given in this life, Enron?

Just that a while ago I couldn't get parts for the vega necca. Cracked doors etc .I also had a leaker and there was no warranty. The importer wasn't importing anymore.

I look at the level of committment ANY import manufacturer is making in the US before buying their products.

I must say that Valliant handled their withdrawal with some class.

Its not about Jim . It' s my feeling that the importer is the weak link in any imported product. It's another level that has to be there that isn't necessary in non imported lines.

    If you like the Biasi

but aren't comfortable with imports, try the Columbia Solaia. It's the same boiler design, handled by an American company. I don't know where it's cast though.

    Yeah

like the Crown Freeport. Some of which are cast by Viessman and Tasso but supported by an American compay . Thats what I sell when i need a three pass or Buderus.

Actually I have confidence in Buderus and Viessman. My market doesn't support Viessman sales though. They as corporations have made substantial investment in the US.

Frank didn't you tell us that Columbia is related somehow to Dunkirk and ECR Intl.?

    Regards

    They're all part of ECR

Columbia, Dunkirk, Utica and a few others I think, but can't remember now (long day). The reason we use so many Columbias by the way, is the excellent service we get from their local supply outlet. Obviously if a customer wants a certain brand we will install it, but if it's up to us (a good boiler is a good boiler) we go for the best service.

I own two of them in Vega skins

with Reillos. We cut our oil consumption about in half from the steamer's use. Some changes I have been making in the direct vent is to go to insulated pipe to maintain stack temp and for quieter operation. So I now have real stainless vents and insulated Z-flex on direct vent.

We were having a problem on one of the twins, rough fire, noisy and smoked, then didn't, then smoked again.

Lew Boyce from QHT made a stop here and spent the morning going over the boiler and burner. We found an air leak in the Reillo (apparently since it was assembled). A new nozzle and pump pressure combination was found that worked smoothly with the length of vent pipe we have and the problem appears to have gone away.

The boiler is quiet and smooth like its twin. So I can now finish all the new vent pipe and do the final wiring. For reference, the other twin ran for 18 months before needing service. They are now on annuals.

It is always a learning experience to hold the work light for Mr. Boyce. He patiently answered lots of questions for me, just the home owner. So I am pleased with the performance and support of these boilers and most of all the improved fuel mileage. I got the impression that the Biasi and Reillo combo were rapidly gaining in popularity.

This is crazy. It is my birthday, I just got in from a 12 hour drive from NJ with 2 cases of stained glass in the truck and I am writing about boilers.

    Sounds great

I'm watching closely to see what I'd replace my 21-year-old Burnham V-14 with if/when it dies. The two strongest candidates so far are the Solaia and the Opus, but I'll look at Slant/Fin, Weil-McLain and others too. A good boiler is a good boiler!

    Hi, Robert

Jim Quincy was in my office today, and I showed him your post. He was a bit perplexed as to why you couldn't get a replacement door for the Necca (not Vega, different designs). He told me he has, and always has had, replacement doors for the Necca. So, I have to respectfully ask where you looked for the replacement door?

    Well Jed

It was at your former employer in the early nineties.Like I said it's not about Jim. I don't think he was the importer then. The fact is that parts were unavailable at that time .

Which was the experience that provided the basis for my remark that you better be comfortable that the importer is gonna be around for a while.

Kinda like "old wounds" I guess. That must have been before my involvement. I have only known QHT as the importers of Necca, and the subsequent evolution to Biasi.

Was it the Stove people in Vermont? I can certainly understand your distrust and disappointment now. Unfortunate. Please, just keep in mind, that Necca has nothing to do with Biasi.

    Regards,

    Jed
