vaporstat substitute

I have found a new surplus Mercoid PG-3-P1 pressure switch. Range is 1-30" WC. Mercury switch opens on pressure rise. Can anyone think of a reason why this would not be an acceptable substitute for a vaporstat?

it should be a perfect fit..
1 3/4'' = 1 ounce..mercoid was a division of american radiator company.. 'course it might look really nice on the shelf of your personal heating museum if you have one.gwgillplumbingandheating.com

Tom, make sure
that it doesn't mean 1-30 inches of vacuum. If so, it was designed to control a vacuum pump on a vacuum-return system, and won't operate on 1-30 inches of pressure.
E-mail me the link and I'll have a look.

Considering we buy vaporstats for
~$110, I'm not usre the "savings" will offset the potential liabilities!
If you leave a plain-jane 404 in as well (in series), then I would use it in a heartbeat.

My feelings as well
Most times when you think you found an inexpensive shortcut, you don't. Unless you have time to experiment, I'd stick with what we know works. Mad Dog

mercoid controls were a top of the line product in their day.. he should be fine..some of our customers have boilers with these vintage controls still functioning and doing it well..still it would look really handsome mounted on a wall like a trophy.gwgillplumbingandheating.com
