I know all the rules, but my boss doesn't care.
I wish OSHA would monitor the non-union companies like they do the big boys, but to date, I have never seen an OSHA inspector on any of the jobs I do.
I try larry, but I'm just a guy that's gets dirty. Less important than the tires on the truck I drive.
But hey, I should be thankful that someone let me get that high right?
Scott.
P.S.
I saw your post Matt. I have bigger problems than impressing you.

electrical safety
In light of the recent post about the tragedy in Long Island, I feel compelled to offer some information. While I may be preaching to the choir, as this is what I do for a living, I hope you will indulge me. For those of you who have no employees, please think of this as some advice. For all who have employees, the OSHA regulations that follow are requirements.
Under the electrical standards for safety related work practices for workers who MAY be exposed to live parts above 50 volts, appropriate personal protective equipment must be provided and used. Training must be provided also. Reference standards include NFPA 70E, which specify what protective equipment, and clothing is appropriate under various conditions.
The following link is the regulation. The entire Sub part S are the electical standards, with 1910.331 thru 335 dealing with safety related work pracitces. It is interesting to note that under NFPA 70E, the simple act of voltage testing at any voltage above 50 VAC, a great deal of protective equipment is required.

On a separate note, there were almost twice as many fatalities from trench cave-ins last year than in any of the past several. (about 53 or so). Federal OSHA is looking at increasing its enforcement activity by way of a task force (whatever that means). If you know someone who makes their living by digging ditches, please remind them to follow the regulations and work safely.
Thank you for your indulgence. I don't mean to be preachy, but I have had to deal with these issues after a tragedy.

You are entitled to the same protections as anyone. If you have safety or health concerns, the first step is to try to find a remedy through your employer. If that isn't going to happen, if you are in a union, talk to them, sometimes they can be persuasive. If that is not an option, all employees have the right to file a complaint with OSHA. The identity of the person filing the complaint is never told to the employer. (doesn't mean the employer won't figure it out, depending on the number of workers in the company.) Employees have rights. Employers can not retaliate against anyone for complaining about hazards in the workplace. Employees have the right to refuse to work if they feel that the job being asked of them puts them in an imminent danger situation where they fear for their life. There is more to this, but you may want to call your local OSHA office and discuss your situation with them. Some jobs are just nasty and OSHA can't do much about that, but when it comes to jobs that are not safe, it is the employer's responsibility to provide adequate protection for employees, whatever that may entail. I wish you the best, but please, do what you can to not put yourself in an unsafe situation.
If I can help you in some way, please let me know.
