As Mom put it: "The race was just too long..." Another year.....another sans a Triple Crown Winner. People just don't realize how elusive the Cup is. Mad Dog

    Not so Smarty Jones

I stopped by the local track to plunk down a few ducats on the race, sensing that history was in the making. A group of people were printing up Smarty Jones Triple Crown t-shirts right on the spot. I asked "How Much?" "Twenty bucks -- get 'em now." I thought the shirt was too cheap looking to spend $20. Glad I passed.

    the game

I'm absolutely impressed how the horse guys suckered in the masses and put the hammer down...

Whether you believe it or not, the outcome is usually known before the race even starts...

Stop! I'm not saying that races have never been fixed

but it is rare in Thoroughbred racing and even rarer in big stakes races. Mad Dog

    Certainly no expert

but it seems that the sport would have been better off with Smarty winning rather than losing.

That race is just so long.

Matt, remember Carry Back? She had the big boys beaten until the Belmont. That's who I thought of while following Smarty.
