anyone have any thoughts on interior truck layouts for plumbing and heating box vans? also, favorite tools you've used over the years.

    truck setups

Take a look at the Hackney shelving, it is designed for their truck bodies, but can be used in a standard box truck. The shelving is adjustable and will fit the bins they also sell.

    We set up mine with,

American Van Shelves. 13" on one side and 18" on the other. I've got a lockable box for all the pricy tools and shelving above on the right, and 8' of shelving on the right. The plastic bins seem to work well with them. Available in both sizes and about 6" wide. Wheel wells are kind of a hinderence, but work for me .

Best suggestion is to lay out the bottom shelves so you can fit either milk cartes or 5 gallon buckets under 1 side or the other. Trying to carry the buckets is a B*$%@ when the shelves are too low. We all know we need to carry at least, a few. When you have to step over/around them a few times, you'll understand what I mean. american van shelves

i have had my eye on those american van shelve racks with the slide out containers. are those the ones you are refering too? if so, what keeps them from sliding out? is the restraint mechanism a pain ot easy when your getting stuff?

    We have found the

Ford E-350 with factory installed shelves and bins to be superior to most.

Which is why the "fleet" is comprised of that line and why we are waitying anxiously for two new ones due in next month.

If they're as good as the last ones, we'll be happy campers indeed.

    Vans

The E-350 is the most comfortable van on the road. I can't imagine climbing in over the wheel well of a Dodge all day. I think they are also roomier in the back by a little. Good truck. EJW

    Anyone ever used or seen

Anyone ever used or seen shelving made by BOTT? They're a European company. Kinda pricey compared to the "free" packages that can be had with most US vans but definitely worth a look. I have an urge to try some in a van if I ever go that way.

We have stuck to pickups for the sole reason of 4WD. Out here in the sticks we have to navigate some nasty crap in the winter and finding a van with 4WD is nigh unto impossible.

    Vans

For the past 5 years we have been using Grumman Step vans with Chevy chassis. We use both Adrian Steel shelving and American Van Equipt. in the larger sizes. Both are great. This is what I have been dreaming about since I got into this business. All kinds of room in a dependable, manuevreable truck. I can stand straight up in the back. No more crawling or squatting. One thing I dreamed up is drilling a series of 2 and 3 inch holes in the bottom of one shelf. I put my fuel pumps hub down. This keeps them from rolling or sliding around and keeps the shaft safe from damage. And you can fit more pumps in a smaller area.

    4wd vans

Quigly Co. converts vans to 4wd for Ford. Chevy builds one now but its a light GVW.

    Another hot set-up

...one of my good customers is purchaseing one of those
new Dodge/Freightliner euro lookin' deals and than having
an air bag suspension installed so the rear of the van can be raised/lowered for loading/unloading.It hasen't happened yet but I'll post the performance if it works out according to his plan...
