Who do you have for Business Insurance

Here in Northern Illinois, my insurance agents are having trouble finding carriers to provide business insurance. It appears no one wants to write insurance for boiler contractors. I have had no claims and typically install only residential sized boilers (under 400,000 input) in both residential and commercial settings (multiple boiler setups).
Who are you guys and gals using and have they been good to deal with?
Thanks loads!

Insurance
Travelers. But they aren't renewing any workers comp. around these parts. This year I had to supply financials to every company before they would even consider quoting. You have a new partner like it or not. They have the gold they makes the rules! It keeps gettin harder to be legitimate. The trunk slammers keep gettin greater leg up. I just got a call from a job we won if we will just up our insurance to 3 million. Where does this end?0 -
We have used
Federated Insurance for the last few years now. Theywill not cover you if you do tract housing or condo type work, at least that's the case here in NY. We have been happy with their customer service. The rates are reasonable compared to other quotes I have received.
Liability insurance is becoming a real pain in the butt the last few years and I think the problem will get worse.
We need tort reform legislation in this country similar to they way I understand it's done in England....loser pays all lawyer's fees and court costs.

Insurance
We have Frankenmuth out of Michigan.
For the last two years, I have not been able to get other agents to give me quotes, not even those that send mailers. I don't know why.
I am happy with Frankenmuth but I like to compare rates from time to time. I have 2MM coverage.
I wonder what it would take, or how many of us should pool together in order to self insure.
It was nice meeting you in Baltimore

You know, you have a really good idea
even if we were not to self ensure, I bet with a large potential customer base, we could get alot better rates. Sort of a heating contractor Coop, nationwide, to help take control of the praice of insurance.

If you could coop
you could possibly have a much higher deductable and at the same time have higher overall coverage. The coop could cover some of the higher deductable and the insurance company could pass along better rates as the risk is spread out over many more firms.
A friend of mine in California started a vision care company on a similar idea and now it is a huge business just out west. They cover this as an employee benefit.
I am sure it could be done, but it takes imagination and guts to start a new concept. Who ever does it will become very wealthy from this idea.0 -
