as we used to say !
Nice looking Place Matt, it should be one big sigh of relief and a cold beer on the porch. I like the clouds, who did the painting ?
Make sure you finish the baseboards it's allways the last thing " Oh yea, lets just move in and will get to that later ". Five years later and no door knob on the bathroom .
Congratulations Matt, I know its been a long haul. Job well done. It should be one hell of a Fourth of July party.
Scott

Lookin', good, MD!
Love that pocket door, and it's obvious the place was renovated the right way. A lot of time, money & skilled work went into that, and you should be proud of what you have accomplished. Next thing you know, you'll be getting calls for Victorian house renovations in addition to your P&H biz. Congratulations!0 -
Thanks Guys
Well, Dan, it took 4 years, and it was BRUTAL. I would not recommend doing both. I did the clouds scott...the wife and mom were tentative so Mad Dog said...gimme the sponge and I went to town. When the wife says its party time, I will let you know. Mad Dog

chimney flue pipe hole
There are all sorts of period-appropriate decorative covers available like those used "back then" to fill/cover unused flue pipe holes in chimneys. Would make a nice addition to the kitchen.
Nice pocket doors - ours are 7ft high by 5ft wide singles, one between entry hall and parlor, another between parlor and dining room. They are my favorite feature of our house.
Enjoy yours.

Looks Great
Matt the house looks fantastic. The pocket doors are great I have 2 of them in my house I know you will love them. The floor in the kitchen is absolutely gorgeous. What are you going to do with all your free time that you are going to have?

2 things...................................
Work my toucas off to pay off the momentous bills. Spend time with my wife and kids who really have been neglected, between the house renovation and me running the business. Ok third thinbg...drink beer with Dan on the Porch. I do plan on having a real bash/open house, but it will probably be next year when the house is decorated. et cetera. Thankls Brian. MD

The Place Looks Great
WoW, What a difference from the last time I saw it. The place looks awesome. When you have a little shin-dig, me and Marky will jump in the truck and come on down. The Sweeney family can be proud to call this house, HOME.

New old House
MD, Good luck with the move in. The clouds blew my mind. It is the same thing I wanted to try in our old house renovation. I Am doing exactly the same thing as you. Reno an old 1880 colonial and run a full time P&H business. We just hit our second full year in June.I am shooting for a Thanksgiving move this year and the family is taking bets against me. Did you do any radiant in the house? Don't worry about the moldings, Just get in the house and enjoy it. It will be something to savor since you worked so hard for it. I will post a few pics of my project when I get some time. Thanx for sharing with us.
Gary from Granville0 -
Hi, HD!
I'll jump in here...Matt did a 1-pipe steam system from scratch. He got the radiators and restored them, too, in a really nice bronze finish. He published pix of the boiler & piping work before, and see the thread above for some pix of the rads waiting to be re-installed. This a very authentic job.0 -
Looking Good!
Must feel pretty good to be this far along in you labor of love. I think anyone can do this work, although few do it right. Looks like your one of the few, good looking job, post the done pictures. I would try to do as much as you can NOW, BEFORE you move in, I know your broke but getting to all the small details takes 20 times more time & $$ when your living there. Am I seeing sprinklers in there too??.........In the home stretch....it's MD by a nose!...Robert O'Connor/NJ0 -
Chimney
Was that chimney intended to be plastered? Just a little pet peve of mine, where there are many resturants here in downtown Ann Arbor that are in old brick buildings where they have striped the plaster off and left it that way...its a look but certainly much more rustic than the builders intended. Many of them still have the marks from the plaster and lath on the now open joists...(this doesn't apply to your kitchen, just reminded me of it).
It all looks beautiful, I'm sure it will be even more so once you get the finish carpenry fisnished...I think the wide moulded basebaords and window casings are my favorite part of old interiors.
Matt0 -
Actually, it was boxed in
not really plastered. Who knows what they had a originally, but this was a farm and the house is really a Country Victorian - not as formal. Thanks Mad Dog

Yes, Copper fire sprinks with silver brazed joints
I hear ya on the mouldings, but I mean, I'm really broke...scraping the bottom of the barrell. Hoping for a very busy heating season to squirrel $$$ away for the mouldings. Thanks For the compliments, Mad Dog
