Human Relations
These are some simple rules that I thought might help us all to enrich our personal relationship with others and give life additional meaning.
It is important to remember that our thoughts control our actions, our actions bring about other peoples reactions.
Simple rules:
1. Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
2. Give honest, sincere appreciation.
3. Become genuinely interested in other people.
4. Show respect for the other man's opinion. Never tell a man he is wrong. (I sometimes have a problem with that myself)
5. Begin in a friendly way.
6. Do things in order of their importance.
7. When you face a problem, solve it then and there if you have the facts necessary to make a decision.
8. Put enthusiasm into your work.
9. Count your blessings, not your troubles.
10. Do the very best you can.
Life may just get a little better if we try these simple rules. You all have a good day now.

Thank you
Yet another reason that the Wall is such a great place to be. And I don't even need any test equipment for this one!!! Thought provoking thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hear Hear!
If only more people followed these rules on a day to day basis, the world would improve at a fast clip indeed. Thanks for summing it up so well.0 -
Dale Carnegie
All of this is in his book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People," and with the most wonderful stories. I read it for the first time in 1971 when I took the course. I reread the entire book once a year. Just finished it for the 33rd time two weeks ago. Timeless stuff. Thanks, Tim.Retired and loving it.0 -
They are noble thoughts
Tim,
A nice inspirational way to start the day. They are all so important to make part of our daily lives, both professionally and business-wise.
I also have one to add, trying to make it through the day without swearing!!!
Have a great day,

2 that have helped me
I picked up both of these here 1. Dan's favorite from the late Gil Carlson of B&G. "A difference to be a difference, has to make a difference" I like things done a certain way and, not everything can or should be done by everyone the same way. 2. From Teddy Roosevelt " It's not the critic who counts ..." about taking risks and winning by the effort of trying. I tell the young techs that the only people who don't make mistakes are those that don't do anything, and learn from your mistakes because a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.0 -
Dan, Dale Carnegie
should be required reading for everyone who is going to go into business. When I started out at the gas company my mentor Bill Morgan by name used to share a different human relations bit every morning with us. I thought this little set of rules says a lot.
I never got a chance to take a full Dale Carnegie course but have a lot of the material I have used over the years in teaching and also preaching. It makes you stop and think.0 -
I have on my wall a poster that says
" the Difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits" by Albert Einstein...with a footnate saying "know your limit"
I like those 10 rules. They will be printed and added to my wall of good sayings.

Thanks Tim
I may need to hear those words more than anyone.
I try to read something like that every day and to put it in practice every day.
Yet every day, I fall short in some way. Thats why I work on IT(AND ME) every day.0 -
Tim
my quest in life is to get my two boys to remember the golden rule, before they speak or act. ALL of it is contained in those eleven little words, as far as i am concerned. they not only instruct us as to how to be aware of others in our life, as your 10 reminders do, but also, the GR, helps us to be aware of OURSELVES. in my book, this self awareness is the key to finding the connection between us and the divine.
thanx for the bump on the noggin Tim, it came at a crucial time.

Problems = Opportunity
Good stuff! It is indeed all about people. Here's one that I like to use in our seminars;
Every problem encountered offers untold opportunity. If it is a complaint from a customer, do not approach it as a problem, even if the customer is irrate. Approach it as an opportunity to show the customer that you care and are responsive to their needs. It's funny how a customer will forget about a problem, but always remember the professional manner in which you handled it. Conversely, even the smallest problem will be long remembered if you do not solve it quickly and with enthusiasm.
Problems are a fact of life. It's how they are handled that counts.0
