Infloor heating calc

Is there a BTU per Sq. Ft we can use to calculate boiler sizes for infloor heating depending on applications such as slab on grade, walk out basement, garage etc.

    use a range of 8- 40 btu/ square foot, as a rule of thumb :)

    But seriously, no there really isn't a one size fits all. Windows, construction, insulation, building use, outdoor temperature, wind speed, etc. These all get input into a calculation that will produce a fairly accurate heat loss and load calculation.

    A simple heat loss calculation is a fairly easy task. Plenty of free loss calculators available these days. Slant Fin provides one here. Make sure the calculator you choose is based on ASHRAE Manual J.

    Some of the ones that seem so simple, in fact are too simple. It's not just a square footage measurement times a "factor" as some www sites lead you to believe.

    Plenty of contractors, reps, and manufactures will steer you and guide you to an accurate heat loss number. Find one with experience in your area and climate. Use their years of experience to get an accurate number.

    best to do the pencil work..... thats why God made erasers;)

    heat loss calculation on your building first,a 5* rating builder will be more than happy to explain all the minor technicalities hes put into the construction and just what you can expect from the building envelope. a PE was involved some place along the line and normaly they will have the info just because thats what they do:)
