Experiences with New Yorker boiler line?.... Boilerpro

They look like a basic, no frill heat source. I like that the controls and gas valve are outside the cabinet away from the heat and are easily serviced. The tall drafthood is a bit of a drawback due to application limitations, but many belive it is a better configuration in terms of reliable drafting. They also appear to use steel push nipples, maybe not as good as cast iron, but comparable to other quality boilers. They have a powervent water and a steamer too.
How's factory backing and service, defect rates, etc.

NewYorker
We sell quite a few new yorkers and have had very good support. The line is actually a branch of Burnham, kind of like the young brother that just hangs around. It is a very basic system and very easy to service. The only problem i have seen is the rollout switch is sometimes bad at initial install. I even had one that was never hooked up, nothing major but a nuisance when your not expecting it.0 -
New Yorker
I have been using New Yorkers for years. They are a well built unit and have had no problems. I mostly use oil, but I have used a number of the gas units. I have also used the oil boiler with a Carlin conversion burner with good results. The FR oil unit is a great uinit. Easy to install with great efficiencies. 300 to 350 stack temps with 12 to 13% co2 with Becketts or Carlins. Burnham did buy the company a few years ago, but except for moving the plant, nothing else has changed. I have an FR in my house.
The gas units are good in my opinion.0 -
Great boiler. My only complaint is the frequency of finding bad coil gaskets. It seems that I am changing them on the New Yorker far more often than any other boilers. Mayhaps it is just w/ the CLW's?

Yep CLW
The installers don't torque em down Then they leak . I had one in two years rotted a cleanout and the coil plate because the installer didnt tighten em up. Also putting a washer under the bolts helps tighten em up or use a 3/4" bolt instead of the 1" that comes with it
It was the same with the Burnham V1 which this boiler is a hybrid of.
However here in Maine they are very well represented by Paul Levesque of Dan Davis sales . He has been stand up about every problem I have had with the line despite the fact that i don't sell em. I was always seem to get callson the stuff that the hit and run plumber intsalled.
