I'm getting ready to run the flue pipe for my oil fired water heater. Piping layout is as follows...(water heater is located in the basent and will be power venting out the side of the house)Come out of the center flue of WH 3' turn a 90 degree and then run 5' horizonially out the sill plate/band board to a Fields SWG power venter( I already have all the Fields equiptment/controls) I will/want to use their RC damper.I will be using 24 guage vent pipe and any pipe that is within 18" of conbustibles will be shielded with 1500 degree fiber shield. Where should I locate the Fields RC damper ???? Joey

    2 acceptable locations

Fields allows 2 acceptable locations in your descibed install. The first is located at least 18" above the water heater on the vertical stack before the 90* ell. The second is anywhere on the horizontal run. I personally would stick to the first location. With either location make sure you locate it so the pivot points of the baro damper are level ( so the damper can swing freely) and make sure the unit is installed plumb (vertically level) so the door doesn't stay part way open at all times or need excessive draft to open at all times.
The easiest way to accomplish this is to install a tee in your flue piping and mount the baro damper to it instead of cutting a hole in your flue.

All of this should also be detailed in the 1 page installation instruction manual that comes with every Fields draft damper box I've ever opened. Hope this helps.

    thanks Mark

your info answered my question completely. I don't have the damper in my hands until tomorrow. The first location may be tight to install because of the height of the water heater. Thanks Again. Joey
