Need panel insulation for boiler.....Boilerpro

I have a Dunkirk D-247 with the exposed collector/drafthood and I want to enclose the collector in insulation. This is to help reduce the boiler room temp. I was thinking of just installing a sheet metal box lined with insulation, but need a source for the insulation. I am not sure if standard home fiberglass insulation is rated for the 350 to 400F temps of the collector.

Any suggestions? Will chamber liners set up under these conditions?

    Well Dave

first off, it was great to meet you at Wetstock!!

Secondly it's critical to get the right stuff, I had a dry base boiler that would start stinking after 45 minutes of run time. I got the rep out there and he made a few phone calls. Turns out they got some off spec insulation at the plant.

Sorry I don't know what the right stuff is., I'm sure you have called Dunkirk?

    regards

    Robert

    This works for me..............

Just like you were thinking, but use Lynn fiberboard about 1" thick. I get mine from Lynn Products, the real use is for combustion chambers so temp. isn't a problem and comes in many sizes. John@Reliable

    Don't use home insulation!

... the stuff starts to decompose at 450°F, the binder catches fire around 500°F, at least according to a colleague who managed to set his lab on fire that way.

Just because the collector only gets to 300-400°F under normal conditions does not mean it won't go higher under abnormal ones. Stick to the appliance-grade fiberglass at the very least (1000°F and above), you can order sheets of it from McMasterCarr if needed.
