WM Ultra question

a call today, it seems that this HO had an ultra installed to do both in-floor and in-joist (tube only, 2 per bay, inspected and passed). But he was led to believe that this set-up required only one temp. My Question, is there a control on the Ultra or one that can be purchased to run the boiler for this 2-temp system, or am I looking at setting for the higher temp and using a mixing valve for the in-floor?

Thanx!

    You could ...

....Use the Control that comes with the Ultra and set it up for Reset of the Staple up System, then use a Mixing Control with Device to Mix the Staple Up Temp down to the lower Radiant Temp.

Other option would be fixed/balanced Mixing through manually set Valve.

The Ultra can run 2 temps on it's own...

The control on the Ultra is capable of running two temps without the use of a mixing valve. Call WM Tech Service at 219-879-6561 to find out how. ;)

    Tube only

I would be careful getting involved with this job. I wonder if the total tube output at the highest possible temp will ever be enough without transfer plates.

A story to make you laugh or

    make you cry!

We have hydronic guidelines here that most of the munis follow. So far these guidelines do not include transfer plates, so some inspectors will not allow them! :)~/:(~

But our climate is quite mild, so staple up works OK, it is just not as effecient as it could be.

Do you have an indirect DHW????

If not then run the high temp zone to the DHW terminals and run the in floor to the heating....
Set them each for the temps you need.....
The DHW zone will not reset, but it probably won't matter.

  • did you ever think

    of using a 364 Tekmar?

Primary secondary piping with injection circs?

    Floyd...

...You of all people, I thought, were an advocate for Reset on any Heating System. Especially Staple up and Radiant...How come the change?

    My thinking here....

was that with staple up in a mild climate that reset really wouldn't do a whole lot towards saving energy. Since the design temp. would probably be fairly low to begin with.
My feeling was that the extra controls needed for reset would not pay for themselves in this situation.
Now if this was a plate and tube deal in a climate that goes to -20.... now we got a totally different situation......

Hey... many times with this hydronics business, there is no absolutely "correct" way to do stuff....

isn't that what makes it so interesting???? What's right for this house is wrong for that one..... none of this SSDD stuff..... helps me with my AADD.....:-)

    thanx for the replies

i actually went and looked at the job today. Yes there is an idirect, but there is also an Ipex Warmfloor injection panel, that everything for floor heating has been running through. So I figure that I could set the Ultra to run the in-joist, then "steal" from that temp to do the infloor through the injection panel as the Warmfloor has its own outdoor sensor. Now I have some studying to do as I have never worked on an Ultra before. Do you know if the manual is available on their site?

    thanx!!
