Old Buderus wood stoves

Where at the old casting plant. The details in the casting was very impressive.
The stove that sits right up against the wall was feed from the backroom by servants, this way there was no soot or smoke. The story goes that the wealthy woman would sit around the stoves in winter and gossip. The servants would lean in close to the stoves from the other side to listen in. Hence the expresion " Are your ears burning ? ".
Notice the extra box on top of the wall unit ? This was if the stove was not heating the house enough and was added to increase surface area and increase output. Early version of the low bidder not sizing his job well enough :)

No
Those are the assembly and operating instructions that came with the stove(s).
If you think German engineering is awesome, wait until you read the instructions - if you can pick them up that is!
Mein Gott en Himmel! Das ist sehr gut!

And the radiator on the left side of the last pic
looks like an ordinary large-tube unit, similar to an American Corto or National Aero. Did you get a close look at it?

Scott, where did you photograph the wood stoves? Tell us more about your trip, looks like a good time. bob0 -
Murph and Bob
Murph, after looking closer I would say these where molds for headstones. These photos were taken at the 2nd oldest cast iron plant that Buderus owns, so more than likly these where molds for bronze or cast iron plaques.
Bob, at this plant ( more like a small artistic shop ) they do sand casting and lost wax process casting. It is sort of a living museum to the history of Buderus. Some of these wood stoves are over 200 years old.
Heres a bit of history for you. When Napolean had taken over most of europe, the prussian king decided to take back Germany. He did not have the money needed to wage a war against Napolean so he asked the noble familes to donate their gold jewlery. In return they made cast iron jewlery. It became a sign of patritism to wear cast iron. These pieces have No Rust on them and we were told it was done by heating the peice and then repeatedly dipping it in graphite and oil to fill the pours of the cast iron.
See my post on No More Pork or Beer for photos of the new Buderus products.
