and back in the USA.
Got back from Germany Sunday about 1:00 pm and had a wonderfull trip.
I took all sorts of photos and as I get them on the computer I'll post them. My hats off to Buderus for a wonderfull time and great hosts. We not only saw the plant and some really cool new stuff thats in the pipeline, but also some wonderfull parts of the country.
Our host Mario from Buderus made a great point when he said goodbye. He said I hope you understand more about us as a company as country and as a people. There more to the relationship than a boiler company.
During a tour of one of the many castles we saw, our German tour guide told us storys about being a 6 year old boy during the end of the war. He told us many storys about the G.I.'s and their kindness toward he and his family. He said to see the Iraqi children standing on the side of the road getting candy bars from the G.I.'s brought back memorys.
He said " When I go to America and watch T.V. I realise that what is shown on European TV is not the same. They don't show all the good that you people are doing. I just wanted you to know that".
Very Poignent during this anniversary of D-day.

I am a big believer in not taking pictures of stuff I don't want to be seen. That stuff comes back and bites you in the .... Just ask Tommie Lee and Pam .
Here's some of the new stuff. I believe ME has allready got one of these install, but this is the wall hung unit we should see this Sept.
Cast aluminum HX. I was expecting somthing along the lines of the Ultra but as you can see its not.

Many new Homes in Germany
don't have basements so they make the boilers like an applaince. We laughed and asked if this model had the ice in the door .
Looks like the old heatmaker althought I'd trust this design a little more.

Low loss header
anyone ??
This is at the factory and here are some of the boilers hooked up to this header. Buderus provides heat to the small town next to the factory as a benifit.

Pork belly and boilers
you're blinding us with science! Lots of things to absorb, I'm doing it in pieces! Making a list, checking it twice, you know.
Thanks for thinking of your fellow "partners in pipe" while you toured.
All I brought back from my Buderus trip (pre digital camera days)was some castle shots and manhole cover pictures with Buderus cast into them
And lots of good memories of course. Thanks
I do remember the morning sauage platters well, however. Mcmuffin be dammed, bring in the real meat
hot rod

Hey Scott!!
Sounds like a great trip. Did they take you drinking at the tavern (formerly the basement bomb shelter) in Wetzler near the town square? I remember closing the tavern with a drinking contest matching drink to drink with the bartender. Joe and Victor W. (JV Mechanical) were witness. Germany is an eyefull, eh? Great Pics!!

I love ya Man !
I knew somebody here liked me
Mike, the H B Smith steamer was cast by Buderus for H B Smith. Pretty cool.
I wish I Had asked more about distrubution of the town heating heating but they where moving us along at that point. I was also suffering from drop jaw syndrome at that point.
Did you see the low loss header ? I would assume that had something to do with it. I don't remember the town being blue, just who long the factory was. I was to get a disk with pictures since they don't let you take pictures of the casting. THAT was cool.
No pork tartar ..... Just plenty of good beer.

So...
...are you guys fans of the cabaret to the left, the "Erotica" store in the middle, or the bar on the right? Hee Hee... The only town in the US where I ever saw non-novelty adult-only stuff being sold in the open, side-by-side to "regular" stores, was San Fransisco. Then again, I'm not an aficionado, so perhaps I just didn't see them elsewhere. America the prude...0 -
That tuned intake
Is really interesting. Did they give any reasons for doing that?0 -
Thats pretty
cool. A pin Style boiler to boot!
Thanks for posting the pics of your trip Scott!

Robert

Smith-Buderus Steamer
looks like a "Cottage" boiler. In those days it was not uncommon for big American companies to have foreign subsidiaries, or arrangements with companies in foreign countries to make their gear under license. Most of my old catalogs list these subsidiaries and arrangements. That Cottage boiler probably once heated a German cottage.

We did'nt have that much time looking at this. we seemed to behind the whole trip
It must have to do with the air gas mixture. It heats the intake air in the cabinet. I was expecting a cast iron block ala` Ultra but this cast fin design looks pretty interesting

Good to hear
I always preferred the Germans to the French.....an enemy is an enemy until he becomes a friend.......a friend who is not there for you when you need him to be and betrays you hurts you worse than an ordinary enemy. Mad Dog
