Jeff... tiger loops can do alot to help.

if your pump is a sun tec then you can check the supply line only. however the tiger loop will save a lota wear and tear on the oil system in general. it will bag off captured air and allow the appliance to function under less stress..and another cool thing is you can SEE the oil right at the appliance with a tiger loop combo.

    lift

Did you say 6 feet lift and 8 feet? 14 feet of lift add to the distance and check valve. how much vaccume do you have? More than 11 kinda scary.

Did you tie in the pool heater oil lines to the existing lines or run them into the tank separately ?

    Oil

If you ran new oil lines into the tank, did you hit the bottom with them, possibly plugging them, or are they low enough that they may be drawing in debris? That will foul a check valve, or slam a pump strainer full so fast that your head will spin. I know that mine did.
