m 80 without primary pump

I came across a munchkin m80 without primary/secondary pumping. The contractor came out of the boiler and into the infloor manifolds. The manifolds have three loops. The temp is dialed down to 115 degrees. I wonder about the long term function of this setup? This system I would have used a boiler pump and a system pump. The other reason I wonder about this is I had bid this job and did'nt get it.

    Munch

Are there zone valves on the manifold? If it's just 3 loops and 1 big zone, it might be ok "IF" it's pushing through enough water to meet the Munchkins minimum flow required (4 GPM, I think..) and supplying the right BTU's to the zone.Hmmmm- 3 loops doesn't sound like much. For a whole house or just floor warming??

It's heat for a small commercial job. No zone valves, 1/2" tubing, spaced 14". I know my area, I not too sure it will work good when we get those -40 degree temps. I usually space mine 9". I wondered about the pump setup, the lack of an air eliminator. However it is a basic system. One lowtemp zone. It's installed differently from my methods. The tubing was laid with no regard for walls or doors. I see it as a learning opportunity.

    sounds like

someone may be headed for "low-bid Hell". Be ready with supplemental heat, but be sure to get paid enough for it.

    Must be a small space

to require only 73,000 btu/ hr? Commercial spaces can work with that spacing, you need the loss calcs and indoor design temperature to really know. Not uncommon to design around a 30° delta t also, for commercial spaces. Just depends on the intended use, indoor temperature required, doors, glass, etc, etc.

How often do you see -40° in you area?

Not sure you could, or should :) move 4 gpm through 3- 1/2" loops. Does it have a bypass in the piping? As long as the Munchkin sees the required flow....

Our design criteria here is ten below and seventy indoor. I have seen forty below but not to often. Its a small space so their design is probably fine. It's the flow that I wondered about.
