Rheem oil warm air units with Tjerlund powerventers

We have customer that has a Rheem warm air unit with a Tjerlund SS1-R powerventer, that will continue to blow cold air and the powerventer will run constantly until the homeowner shuts off the emergency switch at the head of the stairs off. Then once turned back on the unit will fire and run fine until the next cycle, does anyone have any ideas about what may be the problem.

    Venter

Many venters have optional post purge circuits using a time delay relay. This one is either defective or something in the wiring is wrong. The venter should run 3-5 minutes at the end of the cycle to remove all moisture from heat exchange. Blowers should run as long as possible and on many new furnaces they can be set up to run continuously using a lower speed during the off cycles. Turning off the switch would not stop the blower when turned back on if set up for continuous, but it could stop the inducer, so it sounds like a wiring problem.

    Side-Shot vent

On the vent board there is an adjustment for controlling the length of time the vent runs after burner shuts down. Check the adjustment and if it is that, after adjusting it, use a drop of fingernail polish on the adj. potientiomer(sp) to stop the vibration from changing it again. If that does not do it, you have a wiring problem or a faculty PC board on the vent. Jon

thanxs guys, all of these issues were a concern of mine, but trying to get confirmation for any of this from tjerlund seems impossible. The only "true blue help" was from a great guy named John at springfield Johnstone Supply. We have a development of about 50 new houses that have all these units in them. And they have been nothing but problems, unfortunatly the installer has washed his hands of them and Rheem will only talk to the installers...*grin* ah isn't service grand!!! once again, thanxs guys....

    Post purge settings

Tjernlund's factory tech number is 800 255-4208. If the problem isn't the post purge time, call it and ask for the techs. They will help you!
Factory setting for post-purge is 2 minutes. dip switches 3-8 control POst P. 0sec PP is all switches down or off. 30 sec is 3 up or "on". 1 min is 4 up or "on". 2 min is 5 up or "on". 4 min is 6 up or "on". 8 min is 7 and 16 min is 8. I am not sure if Rheem uses the same settings.

If you need to speak with Tjernlund tech service by all means check the small label (about 1/2" sq) mounted on the relay and let them know what it is.

    tjerlund continues

Thanxs, Jack I'll check it out this week when I go out. By the way have you ever heard of any classes Tjerlund puts on for their products?

    Yes, there are.

Where are you located? Tjernlund was passing out a new trouble shooting sheet at the NAOHSM show this past week. It will be available in a waerproof laminated plastic soon.
