Radiant Mud set question

We are installing 1/2" Stadler pex staple down on a plywood subfloor. What insulation or paprer is needed on the floor and how thick does the pour have to be. Heights are limited. Also what is the recommended mix for the Stadler/Viega pex.

    Your tilesetter

should be able to help. Generally concret type mixes need a bond breaker, as you do not want the concrete to stick to the subfloor.

This is the exact opposite of gyp products which usually get an adhesive sprayed down to the subfloor before the pour.

My very first home had a 1-1/2" pea gravel mix poured over the tube. i used a 6 mil plastic as the slip sheet. Various tile supply companies have products available.

The thickness over the tube depends on exactly what product you are using. Any concrete product with aggerate needs 3 times the aggrerate diameter over the tube. I'd highly recommend a fiber added at twice the normal mix. Go with 3lbs. per yard.

I have also used a simple mud pack (scratch coat) just even with the tubes. Dan Peel has some good photos of this.

Surf around the tile web sites for more info.
