extruded heat transfer plates

how many of you have installed extruded aluminum plates. not the same as the thin wall plates. these fasten to subfloor then the tube snaps in to place. wirsbo is the brand i am looking at. any tips on install. i have heard the tube can be a bit stubborn to snap into groove. also are you screwing to subfloor. these type of plates seem like they would be a lot quieter than plates that are fastened over the tube. we are using reset control, with numerous zones. any advice on installs would be great. thanks again. marc

    Plates

We use heavy extruded plates on ALL our staple up jobs.

When installing plates, track and drilling we do all the work off rolling staging, much faster than working off ladders. We also use a self feed self tapping screw gun to attach the track to the floor.I've heard of others useing heavy staple guns and air nailers with simular good results.

Attaching the tubing can be a bit tedious at times but goes in fairly well with a rubber mallet.

The tubing fits tight to the track and there is a very good transfer of heat from tubing to track to floor. We have had zero complaints of expansion noise useing these tracks in conjenction with a reset control.

    Palm nailers

Dale and Hot Rod have both mentioned using a palm nailer to put the tube in. I tried it and it works great. If you don't have one, you can pick them up cheap.

I'm a recent palm nailer convert

and I would never leave home without one again :) It speeds up the tube installation considerably. Get a swivel and a lightweight air hose for added installer comfort.

If you can wait till ISH I'll have a handful of installation tips in my Friday morning seminar :)
