PEX or Soft Cu for irrigation feed?

Options
I know, not a heating Q, but I know I'll get the correct answer here.

Any Suffolk County, Long Island folks, please advise.

Can PEX or soft coil copper be used to tap into the water main to feed the lawn sprinkler manifold?

Water main is in a crawl space. Where I'd like to put the lawn sprinkler manifold, I'd have to use a bunch fittings to get up and out the band joist in a narrow joist bay. Tight quarters, not exactly fun introducing a flame for sweating pipes. I figure a flexible one-piece line would be easiest.

    Copper or plastic??

Check with the AHJ (Inspector)in that area first. The kind of plastic allowed in the NSPC is ridgid in my opinion and the only benefit I see is weight. Go soft copper if you can, but check first. Some juisdictions don't always allow it, if it's been properly adopted by local government. You are going to connect/tie in after the meter right?(can't tell by your post). Also, certain plastics don't hold up very well in direct sunlight. And please don't forget backflow prevention. I hope this helps...Robert O'Connor/NJ

    Thanks for replying Robert.

I was hoping that someone local would already know what was allowed here.

Yes, of course I would tap in on my side of the meter.

I was thinking about PEX-AL-PEX, not rigid plastic pipe.
