    Harrummph!

After 37 years in this business, all I can say is that if you are as good as you THINK you are, "THEY" will have already approached you, or you will have already gone out on your own. In MY company, the only one entitled to have a monumental ego, is the guy who signs the paychecks. And even he, doesn't!

    Grumpy,
Do you compromise doing right for a buck? You
    don't think I'm good? I think I don't want to compromise
my integrity to make money. And I sure as heck don't
want to work for nobody who lowers there standards
to make a living. Yes, I have been on my own and couldn't
generate enough work due to hackers. "THEY", haven't
approached me because they aren't about what I am. An ego
is what you think I have? If it didn't bother me to be a
hack, we wouldn't be having this conversation, would we?

Do I compromise doing right to make a buck? Probably, but I don't always have control over the specifications, or the ability to over rule the architect and/or the project managers.
Do I think your good? No way of knowing, so far all I've learned about you is that you can talk the talk.
If you were in it on your own and couldn't survive due to the "hacks" as you call them, how do you suppose those contractors you are seeking out are successful? Why aren't the hacks putting them out of business?
If "THEY" aren't about what you are, why would they want you in the first place. If you are as capable as you assert, you should already know who "THEY" are.
As far as your having an ego, sure you do, we all do. But, I think it was more your lack of knowledge about the type of people who are contributors to this board, when you tell two of the most professional contractors on it "If you can't be serious, then don't respond."
Have you looked into the priesthood? No ego problems there, highest ethics and integrity, and one fabulous boss.

residential striving to A. I have CFC Cert. And
have a really good knowledge of oil heat. Sheet metal
experience, hydronics. Lay out knowledge of forced
air. Would like to expand on hydronics very much.

You answered one of four questions Robert asked. How about the other three?

    1) What's your "formal" education, and

    2) Payscale now - and hoped for, and

    3) Certifications/licenses?

    Thanks Mr. \"I\"...

There are many factors that go into where you may find a better opportunity, but this forum - being somewhat norrowly dedicated to hydronic heating systems, only gives you access to a tiny handful of potential employers that are large enough to take advantage of your combined skills of HVAC (which has essentially come to mean everything - EXCEPT hydronics) and a desire to branch into hydronics work - do enough wet heat to stop by this website to see what's going on.

Then too, I am unaware of anybody from that area of NJ being a "regular" here.

You might consider scoping out a few local oil companies, or perhaps find a decent Plumbing & Heating guy in the area.

Any nearby plumbing supply house might tell you of the better guys in your neighborhood - and there may even be a sign of "Help Wanted" by a counter area.

    Might be worth a shot?

    Good luck in any event.

    Robert,

I thought that you must be a company owner when I saw your post on OTT. I have followed the thread that you started regarding the boiler/burner combo problems.

You have the right to be proud of how you handled that situation. The reps who responded treated you like you were an annoyance, instead of a customer who bought their product.

Through your posts, it was evident that you are a person who is a highly skilled professional, and you were just trying to sort out problems with their equipment, that they obviously caused and knew about.

Oddly enough, that thread ended with the reps wanting to argue with you and attempt to belittle you, instead of furnish you the information about their product, which they should have given you in the first place.

Brother, you made a lot of points with your peers during that exchange.
    Keep up the great work.
