    Ken,

Next time save your crew a lot of work and get the pool guy to set the unit up properly.

    hmmmmmmmmmm...................

perhaps shorts was a bad selection that morning:)So did the gas co. give em a new boiler?:)I dig the shot on the attachment............reminds me of a super hero cartoon!!!Like he blasted a hole through 4' of solid concrete and steel and is tossing the 5 ton iron out.........OK perhaps I'm getting flashbacks.I did enjoy my youth and early adulthood and............

    Oil? Dirty?

I don't see any of that.
I do see a group of "real" men and Ken making enough to feed that SUV.

Which brings up a logical question:

Where they allowed back into the SUV or did they have to return to work in the rear bed of the pickup truck? Or does Ken have disposable seat liners for "oil jobs"?

Besides, Ken still hasn't told us about how these guys got covered from head to toe in grease and dust. The alleged work nonwithstanding, my personal bet is an impromptu wrestling match in the former coal bunker of this building. The grinning guy won.

    After the third Tyvek suit...

was destroyed in under 10 minutes......

We had all their uniforms dry-cleaned - and then burned!

Each one took a 20-minute bath in a 55-gallon drum of Go-Jo before getting into the 11 MPG rated white leather interior Mercedes Benz SUV for the ride home.

Ken, hopefully you guys learned from this............

I don't think I've never got that dirty from oil or gas removels for one simple reason. We remove burner and all clean-outs doors and flue piping and brush/vacuum it real good. If it's a large system we hire a vacuum truck like the ones used for "smoke stacks" to do the job. Once that is done let the fun begin! John"the0ilman"@Reliable

LOL, reminds me of freight pilots...

...allegedly, whenever they have to carry a load of Durians, they'll strip once inside the plane, place the uniform in a double bag (sealed once each), then make the flight using $5 clothes from the local market. On arrival, they switch clothes again, back into uniform, then discard the $5 clothes. Ditto for pot-bellied pigs and other cargo you'd rather not have to fly...

    So far....

The W/M 1394 boiler alone weighed 13,000 pounds. The oil burner, condensate pumping station, fire box/I-beam base, sheet metal and near boiler piping weighed another 5,600+/-.

Of that, roughly 5,000 pounds was all soot. We ate and plugged up enough masks to account for at least 4,975 pounds. The remaining "trace" was embedded in our clothes and skin.

Late last night, the men went right to a nearby laundramat, stripped and jumped into large commercial washing machines with a 22 oz box of Tide and a quart of bleach - and put the machine on "delicate."

20-minutes on the spin cycle (after the fifth beer - and third rinse cycle) had them all wired up and so crazed, they wanted to go back and finish the last trailer load.

In addition to OT pay, this Monday I take them all to NYC for dinner and an evening at the Village Vanguard to hear the big band.

I have a great crew. How many guys do you know would have the expression they have on their faces - at 1:00 a.m. on a Thursday (actually THIS morning - Friday) - after all the neighborhood bars closed?

    durians

    Never had heard of durians...

    From my Search :

The durian is a light green, spiny, melon-like fruit from southeast Asia that has delicate, creamy, bittersweet golden flesh and an unforgettable odor. One writer likens it to: "overripe cheese. Rotting fish. Unwashed socks. A city dump on a hot summer's day... carrion in custard."

    Even the washer would clog

with the remaining 100 lbs of soot.

    That sure wasn't MY boiler

and I've seen gas ones just as dirty.

Did the EPA trace the flow back thru the sewers to the laundromat they were bathing in?

    Bleach

    kills all traces.

We just feel bad about Mrs. O'Shay and what happened to her fine Irish linen table cloth on the next useage.

    It wasn't pretty.

Ever eaten bangers and mashed potatoes on a zebra striped table cloth?

    Soot

I'm wondering what coal mine you guys came out of? Or perhaps the boiler room of the USS Olympia? Maybe a Baldwin Consolidation locomotive? Just wondering.

We got 80-cents per 100 for the cast iron

So far, the scrap has yielded well into the hundreds.

    Ken?

Are your men playing in the firebox again? Oh Boy, what a mess. For many a year I campained a race car on the nhra circuit and we would all get real dirty between rounds. After the between round teardown & warm up and before going to the line I'd make everyone change clothes before the media took some shots of us. Your men are wearing that soot like badges of honor and seem quite happy. Post some after shots (with your sunday best on)...Robert O'Connor/NJ
