    Neat!

I was struck by the gargantuan size of the Normandy residence... and what appeared to be a lack of space for the heating plant. Don't get me wrong, your works looks great, I just wonder why there wasn't more room for it considering they set aside 3,000 sq ft for a wine cellar... priorities?

My architect wanted to reduce the size of the utility room until I too started to squeal. I may be an engineer but I don't expect the heating and cooling "magicians" to put 10 lb of stuff into a 5 lb bag. Even at 8 x 20 the Utility room may start to run out of space due to all the junk that will go there.

    Boiler space

Constantin, it's a chronic problem to find architects who have allowed for adequate system space. It's a little easier with wall-hung boilers, and I would have used a wall-hung at the Normandy residence, if they were available then. We try and identify mechanical system space and whether it's possible to "cram it in". Or not. It's unfortunate that many large homes are built in the Seattle area without a mechanical engineer consulting. That's one reason there are so many issues with adequate system design and the "design-build" philosophy.
