My boss is looking for 12-15 five or so section cast iron radiators for a new addition on his house. Our company is located in central New Jersey so he would be willing to drive a few hours to pick them up. Any leads on any salvaged or used cast iron radiators would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Jim

    Wow! that's some extension!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure he did a heatloss for the rooms or is he just guessing? Those will be hard to find used. It is hit or miss these days. The junkyards sometimes still have a few, but by and large it will be tough to find them. If he wants really nice ones, A-1 Supply in Massachucetts has really nice, ornate, and EXPENSIVE!!!!! ones. source for cast iron radiators

One of my customers keeps a warehouse full of cast iron radiators. Potential problem for you is he is in St. Louis, MO. If that's not a problem, you can reach Perkins Heating Company at 314-781-6811 or on the web at www.perkinsheatingcompany.com

    Who in St. Louis?

I've probably already been there/called, but maybe not...

Am still searching for some exact replacements for my house--US Capitols. I don't really need complete rads--just some end sections and a few intermediates.

    Cast iron beauties

Hi Mike, We met at the Denver Wet Stock. I have tons of radiators. Send me a photo of what you need, or if they are pictured in Dan's book, Every Darn Radiator, tell me the page number.

That really is the problem with these darn things, shipping them long distances. I am still looking for a radiator tool that can be used on the left/right nipples.

    Thought that name sounded familiar

I still have your card Dave, but haven't gotten around to writing. Did you enjoy the Tesla book?

    Rads I need:

US Capitol (EDR pp. 136-141). 6-tube. Two sizes, measured in height of end section from floor:

38½" (need full radiator about 10 sections total)

21¾" (need one end section and about 5 intermediate)

Note that these heights DO NOT match those in EDR nor in my original brochure. They must have been made in a "tall leg" variety--and I have the weird ones. The "normal" 37" in is OK for the tall one, but I really need the 21¾ for the other as it is part of a matched pair underneath a big bank of casement windows. (Right now I have Cortos in their place until I can find the Capitols.)

See photo and I think you'll see the "tall leg" difference. Most of my upstairs rads are piped this way (originally) but most on the main floor are connected in the "normal" bottom-bottom fashion with holes through floor at each end.

Photo below shows the way most of my upstairs rads are connected (3rd hole wasn't my mistake by the way). Plenty of room for 1" lines even (these are ¾")--I guess this is why the "tall leg" ones were made. Downstairs are the same even if most of them are piped in the normal fashion.

    Radiators...

Jim, Nutley Heating & Cooling Supply has the new ones (there probably the kind MD described) (973)667-6880. They have multible branches, so there's probably one near you. They are quite expensive but they look great. Ask for DJ (Dave Evans) or Ralph (manager)...Robert O'Connor/NJ

I have a feeling the ones I have are the American, not the U.S. I will check and let you know.

The Tesla book was fantastic! A genius! Changed the lives of all of us.

    radiators

We are in the process of converting steam heat to forced air. We have eight cast iron radiators for sale, various sizes, two wall types. We are in Missouri, about a hundred miles northwest of St. Louis.

    radiators

I have seen quite a few radiators at Vermont Salvage's two locations (Manchester, NH and White River Junction, VT). I have also heard of a place in Boston that will ship refurbished and pressure tested cast iron rads. I believe their website is "antiqueplumbing.com" or "antiqueplumbingandheating.com" (I can't remember for sure).
