    Perceptive...

Yeah, I think Tom imagines if you spell poorly, you design and install heating systems poorly.

    >>>"Why would I want to click on a link to "Find A Professional" and take a chance on a guy who might run his business the way he posts on The Wall?"

He simply associates poor spelling with poor workmanship. The old "dot your 'i's and cross your 't's " metaphor.

A flawed assumption, but probably a valid perception. Don't you think it's fair to say a polished presentation usually makes a more favorable impression, everything else being equal?

I also think it's obvious he's a gentleman with sincere concerns, not a troll. After all, he reappeared and explained himself even though he didn't have to. He's alright. Or is that allright? ;-) Well... anyway, he's chillin'... he's cool. Thoughtful and insightful answers, it appears to me.

    A writer's two cents

Being a journalist by trade, I have to watch my spelling and grammar. If I didn't I wouldn't last long in the biz (slang). But I've never had a Wallie critique my spelling or grammar (sometimes my content and logic but that's fine).
In fact one of my last threads had "Ornage" instead of "Orange" in the subject line yet I was the only one to correct it.

Bottom line is this: If I want a good plumber or hydronics expert, I'll choose one of these professionals on The Wall anytime because they know their nuts and bolts. And I doubt that I'd ask for a discount on their invoice if they misspelled a few words.

To be honest, a few strategically misspelled words often grab my attention and tickle my funny bone more than some boring editorial spewings.

Chill out -- there are far more important things to discuss.

    Grammar and Spelling

Years back when I was "stationed" at a downtown hi-rise monitoring engine drives, the chief engineer and I used to snag my partners weekly time book every friday just to make fun of his writing. The original friday funnies. He was, and still is, one of the smartest service fitters I know. Around here it's the work, not the words, that make the man.

"HYDROBONICS"???... another one for Webster created right here on "The Wall".

Some unrelated new words from the Washington Post's "Style Invitational"

    1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with

    3. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future

    7. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

    18. Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an #*#hole. (I dont think any of you are ignoranuses, or would the plural be ignorani?)

    14. Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

    Pardon my French?

I am curious to know why Tom is talking "english" grammar yet slanders the french? I live in a place where both those languages are a must to get by. In that same place(Montreal) many other languages are used, many using broken english and french to express themselves or to explain themselves. But you know what...we get by and we learn a little more about each other. What always amazes me we are get to know what the other is talking about. Pour tout mes amis sud (et pardon ma francais) keep on writing, besides my english writing is "much gooder" than my french writing

It takes a talent, to be able to think outside the "box". Something these fine tradesmen can do.
