Need a way to estimate fuel usage

Rocky
Rocky Member Posts: 121
A company here is building a big building. They want all radiant. Went to bank with their numbers and the banker was wanting to know what the operating costs would be for their heating system. Any way I can estimate annual fuel usage for this system based on boiler AFUE, Degree days, Btu requirements of building etc??? It seems as if I heard John Barba give a brief estimating formula at a Wirsbo seminar once. Maybe it was Siggy at a RPA seminar. Anywho, anyone have any ideas they could share with me?
Warm regards from (not too) chilly Fairbanks,

Rocky

    Est. Cost

You need siggy's Design software it has a fuel cost estimator, if you can give me your location, heatloss of the building and cost of fuel you are using I can run it for you.
I think I could E-mail you a copy of the results.

    Fuel Usage estimate, Mr. Davis

Thanks for your reply. I am here in Fairbanks, Alaska. Outdoor design temp is -45. We have a little over 13,000 degree days. BTU requirement of the building is approximately 890,000. Cost per gallon of #2 heating oil is around $1.35. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Also, the bank will want to know how I came up with the numbers, so any info on how we got to that point would be great. You can e-mail me at: rockyp@alaska.net

So, it sounds like I should get Siggy's program. Do you use it often? Do you like it?
    Warm regards,

    Thanks Bill

Now I know what program you were talking about when you called the office earlier today. I just now got back to "The Wall" and saw your post.
    Thanks for replying.

    Mr. DAvis

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to include the boilers, they are Budurus, so figure approximately 86% efficiency. Will that make a big difference in annual cost over the 80% estimate you used?

Thanks so much for your time. I see I need to go get Siggy's program.

    Regards,
    Rocky
