for comparing various under slab insulations.
I took a 18" square of 1" Dow foam, InsulTarp, and Refletix to a nearby ice skating rink yesterday. I put sensors between the insulation and some 4" thick concrete blocks I cast, were placed on top.
The ice was at 17°F, air temperature at 1 foot above the ice at 38°. I warmed the concrete blocks to 68° in the shop the night before, wrapped them in InsulTarp for the treck to the ice.
Interesting results. Think I may run an overnight test, and adjust my test rig a bit. Even with the sensors bonded to some copper the Tarp and Refletix softness allowed the sensor to get pushed into the material. I may notch the sensors into the concrete.
Thought about re-running the test with all the bubbles popped in the two bubble products, just for grins.
Any other thoughts or ideas. I'll shot for a Tue night retry, as the ice comes down Wed. for the summer in this rink.
I also tried a seat of the pants test after the concrete was removed!
Wish I had a data logger, be nice to watch the results for a 24 hour period, minute by minute. Gets cold standing around in there for hours :)
