Radiator Restoration (SB and Powder Coating)

We would like to restore the steam radiators in our house. The paint on all of them is in pretty bad shape. What is best way to clean them up and paint them? Is sand blasting and powder coating common? If so, are there any recommended locations in the Philadelphia area that would do this work?

    Sandblast

I use a company in Mt. Cobb PA.They have clients that come from MA and other parts of the NE.They do motorcyclyes race cars etc.IMO that is the best way to finish. It also depends on your personal taste in finishes.Powder coating is going to add a gloss that many would consider far from traditional.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Had mine also sandblasted,

but covered with flat paint to match decor, nice! But, again, it's what you like. Cleaning is a must since so many were painted with lead based paints.

I urge you to talk to this guy.

He had a steam nightmare which thanks to Dan's referal, worked out beautifully.

Check out the job the homeowner did on the master bedroom steam rad!

See attachment. If you want his email address, I'll provide it - he'll respond and tell you how he did it.

BTW, he owns a full service body shop.

I would be very interested in his email address. We probably won't be going that elaborate, but it sounds like he would be a good resource. Thanks.
