Aquastat 8124A

I'm a homeowner. I had an aquastat 8124A installed with my oil furnace about 8 years ago. It has always supplied enough hot water for my three story Victorian. Recently, I run out of hot water if I turn the shower on full force. This did hot happen in the past. My setting are low-160 and high-180. The diff is set to 15. The water mixing valve is off. Please explain the function of the diff setting and the water mixing valve? Why would I run out of hot water if the settings were not changed from where they were for years? Thanks Glen

    It's not the control, it

has nothing to do with that. You're right, if it has been right, it can't be wrong now.

You probably need either a cleaning of the coil in the water heater or maybe a replacement is in order. Water conditions dictate a lot of this.

You may also need a cleaning or replacement of the element in the shower control if it's isolated only to that. Call your heating guy first, plumber second, if needed.

    Aquastat

You don't say, but I'm assuming this is a summer/winter hook up with a integral domestic hot water coil. The coil is probably fouled with scale and that is why the hot water does not last. The domestic coil can be replaced and the water will be as good as new (unless the boiler is obsolete). If it is a separate water tank, I would look at the control itself. Good luck.
