I removed 2 Smith GB300's today at guard drill today. How many times do you get to have a bucket loader to haul away the scrap and plenty of man power to pull it out with? These boilers cracked during the winter, Convinced them to go with (3) G234 Buderus staged with a Tekmar control. That will be next drills work. It will be interesting to see future fuel bills. When work goes out to bid, they only look at the bottom line install dollars. I keep trying to get them to look at cost of operation. The battle continues. Ever try to do a install wearing chemical warfare gear? Lets just say you do not have to worry about dry skin.

Chemical Suits
ebay ! Camo chemical suits $20-$25 with shipping. Get a size smaller , they are designed to go over your clothes so they are sized larger. Great for paintball too. The layers of charcoal help soften the inpact... Splat ! :O0 -
How'd you get around
Uncle's bid process, cool! What branch are you in?0 -
Yeah!
I'm with firedragon, how did this get past procurement?? Maybe you'll just have to invade the boiler hosts country for parts....Robert O'Connor/NJ (wouldn't be the first time)0 -
paintball
hay BIG ED !
I did not know you're into paintball.
Always wanted to try it.0 -
No Bid Process
Not when the guard members are doing the install. I was in there during the week as a contractor and identified the problem and made my recommendations. This is a Air National Guard, Civil Engineering unit. It also is my home unit. Talk about saving the gov't money. The CE unit will buy all the material and next guard drill we will install the boilers. Believe me this is a struggle because we have many other training obligations. As everyone is aware we are in the middle of some critical real world situations. But it allows some great training for our troops and maximum tax dollar savings for our tax payers. More projects in the future include a couple of Hydrotherm modular boiler units that will be replaced. Can DO, Will DO is the attitude that prevails here.0 -

The Big Game is two weeks away . Tanks & helicopters, three thousand come for the big weekend.... We alone have our own squd .Sunday May 16 , Your welcome...call 1800 flag007 for reserve of equitment and a entrance discount ...Up grade for the Matrix gun... Is that just a CE squadron or
are you a Prime Beef Mobility unit? I am a former 54770 Red Horse alumni, USAF is where I learned this biz, FACT!
That must be an ANG facility and not USAF, Uncle doesn't like buying foreign made goods.0 -
\" Just\" a CE unit
Times have changed when it comes to procuring equipment. The U.S. economy is part of the world economy. That means parts and equipment come from all over. The Munchkins we use (American Company) parts are from all over Europe. The ignition systems on the Buderus are U.S. made. Take a look at your steel pipe fittings (China). But there is no brand specification made on the bid sheet when it goes out. This is exactly why we end up with many different kinds of equipment. Some good, some poor. What I am trying to do is get some kind of uniformity with the boilers. I hope you are not trying to say I am not patriotic by installing Buderus product. After 18 years in the military(this is where I started learning the trade also) I am only trying to use a product that will provide excellent service.0 -
Take lots of pics Darin............
I wish you were closer.....we'd bring the Mighty 14Th BDE Engineering Company to give you boys a hand. I'd love to work side-by-side with you guys. Are you guys participating in Patriot East At Drum this summer? Mad Dog

Nope,
I've never questioned the patriotism of the Guard or Reserve, don't be so thin skinned and paranoid. Spent 10 years in the Reserves myself, came out as an E-6, NCOIC of the heating shop.
I guess things have just changed. No bids, foreign is okay, wasn't that way years ago. World economy, hmmm. We still get our butts kicked over the decimal system, but what the hey history always proves who's right. Enjoy your Sunday.0 -
Down south for us Dog
Yo, Mad Dog. How you doing? We are going to a regional training site in North Carolina. This place has different field equipment we would use real world. Field boilers, environmental control units, temper tents, rapid runway repair, and assorted vehicle training(humvees, loaders, dump trucks. Good training, all training is done by our supervisors. Hard to say what could come up in the future. A trip across the pond is definetly not out of the question. Firedragon - Sorry, hopefully with drugs and therapy I can overcome my paranoia. Didn't mean to snap at you. Dog, I will take some pics of the install when we are done. I have to post some pics of some other jobs me and the "Grinch" have been working on, some nice pump panels.0 -
No problem,
drugs can fix anything, I'm the living proof :-)
I went to both Mildenhall UK and Ramstein with my AFRES unit, good duty. I loved going back to Mildenhall since I had been there while on active. Worse place was Keesler in Biloxi after Camille, but the weekend in Norlens made up for that.0 -
Yep, Darin, is PRIME USDA 100% BEEF
I knew there was something about you - aside from the great books and articles - that I liked, Georgie!!!!!!!! Go Guard! Mad Dog

Camille
I remember Camille.
We had family in Gulfport during Camille. Thank God there weren't as many killed as there could have been.
Also thank God for the people that helped clean it up. People like you, Firedragon.
And New Orleans is still a party town.

Thanks MD, and the feeling is mutual.
Combat Engineers, hmmm?? Tough bunch of guys.
I was trained by the Seebees and USAF at Port Heuneme, CA and was exposed to BDE's 'in country'. Great units, all, engineers pave the way and in our case keep them in hot water, FACT! Wasn't that unit in Nam?0 -

Let me know when you'll be down there.
I still have family down there and know of the out of the way places that have really excellent food.
The place my Dad asked Mom to marry him is still there and owned by the same family. I hate going there because of the decisions that have to be made when I look at the menu. Too many choices.
First pitcher is on me for any wallie I meet down there.

My business partner
is as Red, White, and Blue as Uncle Sam.
He also knows his hydronics.
America is a better place because he and many like him offer themselves as a sacrifice.
Thanks Darin, Thanks Matt, and thank you to all of the rest of you that have served or are still serving our country.
Just wanted you to know, you don't have to die to be a hero in my eyes.
God keep you all.

Thanks for the Kind Words
I have been in the military almost 18 years but what really changed me was when I was walking through broken glass inches deep at Ground Zero. When I saw that a fire had burned so hot that it melted glass out of windows a block away. When I saw video of people jumping out of windows because it was too hot to stand. What a horrible choice to have to make. When I saw firemen who would not leave the site, trying to possibly save one more life. 9-11 changed me and how I view the world now. I know it changed Mad Dog and why he chose to serve. My Air Force specialty code is 3E151 Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. So if I get called to use them to help in the war on terrorism, I am more than willing. It will make it difficult for my family and for my business. None of my family wants to see me go but they also understand that I made a commitment to my country and will always honour that.. It would make it very hard on the business and Mark if I was sent over. But we would endure it. Nothing is gained without sacrifice. I never again want to see what I saw in NYC in the early days of September 2001.0 -
God Bless you wethead soldier!
You give me hope for the future of this great country. Mad Dog
