We had it about 4 years ago. It was very DOS heavy at that time and we didn't like it. All key commands. We switched to Quickbooks.

    Intac was the DOS version

and it was clunky. The new version is Wintac and is windows based. I enjoy it and foind it very easy to operate. We make a proposal for the customer, we change it to a work order for the guys , they turn them in, and we change it to a invoice.

I write all my proposals on it and have all my materials priced in the invetory mode.

I am not sure how well the finacial end is. Since my accountant likes the quickbooks format. we are going to download to quickbooks for the finacial end and see how it works.

I keep photos of jobs in the customers file and can look at work when doing a repair order. We do'nt use half of what it will do.

From what I hear here doensn't give me alot of confidence in pulling the trigger. I am going to get a working version of the software from them and see how it works.

    Why change?

We have been using QB Pro for ~10 years and love it!

What don't you like about it? And what does Wintac offer that you feel is missing in QB's?

  • Here's why we are switching...

Quickbooks was poorly designed for inventory control and Multi-User formats. We find ourselves double entering alot and we always have to kick eveyone out of quickbooks to do a simple inventory/item change.

When we finalize a customer order and need to pull all of the items out of inventory that we used on a job, quickbooks forces else into single user mode and puts a halt to office work until the job is complete. We are looking at a system that uses a database.

We just ecounter way too much downtime in quickbooks.

    Well...

If you have the single pak, networking in the same office requires only one computer be running at the same time.

If however you have the multi-pak (five user) package, no processing conflicts occur. Or do they?

Don't know. We use the single-pak program and never have conflicts with multiple users - because we rarely have any two-at-once conditions.

Networking among any software can be hairy. Make sure the Wintac system you contemplate is network freindly and the multi-user price tag includes real support - not web-based Q&A garbage.

I run three computers all at the same time with NO problems from networking.

Wintac is one of the easiest systems for me to use. I can fly thru different tasks. One things that nice is if a contactor calls for a quote from a job I have quoted for another, I can move it over to their file with out retyping the whole thing.

Thats just one of the little things it can do.

I find quickbooks to be more acountant orientated and not as service friendly.

We do have a multi-user package. And you can tell that quickbooks was not designed as a multi-user software package.

So Scott, you still use quickbooks for your accounting? How does that tie into quickbooks as far as updating inventory levels?
