Has anyone seen these?

Have any of you seen or worked with one of the Rye Tek waste oil burners? We have a customer that has purchased one and is having trouble with it and even the company rep does not seem to have any answers. This would appear to be a modified Beckett burner fitted to a Buderus boiler, the company is claiming in excess of 300,000 btu but the boiler is only burning about three gallons of oil a day and will not keep up to a 70,000 load. We are seeing a number two smoke, 5% CO2, and a stack temp of around 290. Boiler is sooting up rapidly and will not stay in operation. There are NO tech manuals or even a wiring diagram available. We were assured that these were "in the works" and would be available some day!
If anyone out there has had any experience with these please reply.

I dont know if i have seen them or not,however....
waste oil burners are notorious for being one side of a natural foul up a.l.l. t.h.e. time...dont say i said this jazz up the waste oil with some # 2 fuel oil and for whatever reason....they seem to act ok. this is the only pretty much sure cure i've ever heard of.0 -

...If my memory still serves me correcly thay are similer in operation as a heavy oil burner (#6 f/o,nasty smellin'stuff)
The oil m-u-s-t be pre-heated and also needs help in the atomization department (I believe some have a little air compressor on the burner or need compressed air to operate properly) Cutting the waste oil w/#2 sounds like a plan but defeats the purpose sum,ya think?0 -
what are your setup's?
hate to be the one that give's you the bad new's but waste oil burner's are a constant pain in the xxx...but anyway, history on a different burner required approximately 20 to 25 lb's air pressure, oil pressure approximately 2 lb's and the proper waste oil nozzle...check what the burner indicate's but it will have a very large opening....make sure your filter's are cleaned at minimum monthly and the oil they toss in the can is screend so it's not full of sludge. As to cutting it with #2 oil they generally recommend against that due to the way the system burn's. hope it helps'...0 -
You might try,
Shenandoah (sp). They run a similar burner. I believe Black Gold does also.I've seen mostly furnaces being run on waste oil, but I believe I saw a Clean Burn waste oil bolier advertised. With the Clean Burn units, you had to supply a compressor, but the rest are more like what you've got ther, with the "air pump" mounted on the fuel unit side.Fuel units are usually remotely mounted on the tank mostly.Good luck. like i say dont say i told you...:)
the manufacturers say Dont do it the whole idea is to get the stuff to burn...hence the filters, preheaters, pressure assists.....my buddy and i designed a system to burn Sludge from a sewage treatment plant.. no hi tec stuff, manufacturers warranty, snivilers in general to splain why it couldnt work ) the Nozzel was a piece of black iron hammered flat:) enjoy.0 -

Waste oil
The problem with them has always been that the concentrations of the different oils are not constant. Some oils have more BTU's than others, thus need more oxygen to burn completely. This would suggest that the burners be constantly re-adjusted to insure cleaner operation. Some of the burners seem not to have the capacity to burn some higher BTU oils, although I can't get anything definitive from the manufacturers.0
