Electric radiant................Our way..........hb

We started this up today. We used 1/2" tube, but 3/8", 5/16" or smaller could be used. The heat source is a Thermolec fully modulating electric boiler. We found this line from Dan's manufacturer's link (to the left). I've done electric boilers before, but this one is cool. Outdoor sensor and all.

The Wall and Nextel's Direct Connect is a great combination. I had a question about this boiler and called Scott Milne via 2 way and he checked here for the phone number I needed. Instant gratification with no guilty conscience. ;-}

    Nice!!

    Great little project!! I like the approach. I've been wanting to try this model, and the local Viessmann rep has one on display. Electric rates are .03 cent/KW in some parts of WA, so electric boilers are common East of the Cascades.

    kewl!

    HB, i've had mine sitting at the wholesalers for about a month now. the project just had the floors poured today. i was in contact with the chief engineer, and they are going to be offering a model, that will be able to do an indirect tank. call for heat to the tank will be prioritized. what setting are you using in your area? out here we will probably use number 6.

    We will start at #5.

    Leo,

    The load for this area, as you can imagine, is quite large. Reset of some sort was mandatory since water temps at design will be higher than I would like when it is 40°. Once the cold weather comes back, (hopefully, not unti this October!) we can set the ratio. Since the AUST will be quite low due to all of the glass, I'm not to concerned about surface temperatures of the floor. More concerned with keeping the floor loaded.

    Beautiful!

    One question, the tube looks like aquapex. Is this boiler used just for the sunroom or is it domestic supply also?

    It's hePEX.

    Thanks, Dale. I can do projects like this all day. Basically a day and a half and it's done and on to the next. I do plenty of those projects that take a year or more to complete and just drag on. I guess I get bored too quickly ;-}

    This is a heating only application. Anyone that knows me can tell you that I haven't/wouldn't/won't use any non-barrier tube for radiant of any kind. Ludicrous to do so, IMVHO.

    Nice to see a Thermolec...

    Absolutely beautiful install. The Thermolec boilers intrigue me. If I ever had a super insulated house that I could heat with under 10KW, this is the way I would go even with electrical costs being higher. No flu, no CO potential, not even that heavy of a circuit requirement when under 40 amps. And if it were a 2 temp design, I'd use two of them. The only tricky part would be tapping into a neighbor's buried electrical feed. L

    Glad to be of assistances.

    In my area I would need supplemental with a project like this, what is the load ?

    What do you intend to run the floor at ?

    Is that tar paper underneath, and if so are you concerned with of gassing ?

    I am going to contact the Guggenhiem about your work :)

    just curious...

    what are the supply ,return,and room temps?4 degree margin?

    Initial design criteria.

    Weezbo,

    The load at design temps (Philadelphia, 15°F) is 40 btu/sq. ft. 10° Delta t with a supply temp of 120°. The beauty of reset is the floor will never see those temps (or higher) until design. With this kind of water temperature demand, the floor would be very warm during moderate weather with a set point control. Outdoor reset was the reason I chose the Thermolec boiler. But after installing it, it will be my first choice when an electric boiler is needed.
