because he's at work.

He needs opinions as to whether an oil-fired Buderus is loud when firing.

Thanks, lads.

    He'd also like opinions

on the NJ PHCC. Good place to go for recommendations as to a suitable pro to put in the system? Thanks.

    Dan and Homeowner,

I will say that with a Riello burner, fired into a chimney, I've found them to be a bit loud. I was at the Buderus training facility last fall, and they make their hot water with a 115 model that has a Beckett burner in it . It has a rather large cover, not any wider than the boiler, but a bit bigger than most, and to tell you the truth, I had to put my hand on it to see if it was running. It was vented into an "all fuel" chimney, but I've noticed the Riello roar on most American boilers as well. Robert O'Conner in Me. says he has great luck with the Carlin EZ burner in these boilers, give him a shout.

Thanks again for a great time this past weekend. Chris

Dan - I put in a Buderus g115 with riello burner in my own home about six years ago. the sound was noticeable from what we had.I have Installed the riello since the early 80's and noise has always been a problem. combustion noise can be taimed somewhat depending on chimney, and surrounding boiler room. The combination of boiler and burner in my opion can not be beat! whats nice about it is, when & if I notice ,I hear the sound of savings. JKB

    Loud Boiler

If you want a Quiet boiler go with an Energy Kinetics 200 with a Becket Burner.

    Buderus and beckett

i've installed a couple of there 115 and 215 boilers with the afg and the af2 some in mansonary chimmeies and some in a metalspact pipe and found them not loud at all if you use the cover as for the boiler on oil you can't get any better a breze to clean low stand by temp loss so there good for closet installs and loaded with small thjings like adjustable leveling legs .i believe the g215 come with af2 burners and a cover i didn't think it was loud compared to the carlin ez on the boiler we removed good luck and peace

    Hey Wetties,

Here is my 2cents. A Buderus 115 can be noisey or spookey quiet. A direct vent with a double wall flex vent needs an indicator light so you know when its running. (No Joke)

A chim. vent app. can sound like a jet.But it is site specific. Buderus uses no refractory in chamber for max heat absorbtion. The combustion noise can reverb up the chim. and out the draft regulator as well. Alot has to do with the construction of the chim. and the acoustics of the basement. chimney chase walls should be insulated when possible in new construction, demand this from the G.C.. The basement cieling should be fire rocked taped and insulated above the Boiler. That will help too. Masons need to learn a thing or two about modern chimney construction. This is what I know: there should be a minimum of 1 flu diameter between the oil and fire place flus. The flues must be completly seperated in the ash pit or sound will do a U-turn and head up to the fire places. Fire Places are the biggest producers of comb. noise. Use a flash light in one ash clean outdoor and a mirror in the other. If you see light you know the flues are not isolated
Use bricks and morter or retort cement to build a wall between flues in the ash pit. I have seen good masons wrap special insulation around tiles as the build or back fill the void with Thermix. Blue Stone chim. caps cand bounce sound down fire place flu as well. They are really not needed. a tall chim will get very litle debris falling into it. ULTIMATELY Masonary liners should not be used with modern oil or gas heating. There too darn cold. They Originally were designed for 600 Deg. stack temps. Use a stainless with an air space when ever possible with exterior chims. and never oversize an interior tile lined chim. Buderus reccomends that flue size be matched to the breech size. Check out WWW.copperfield.com they have every kind of lining system possible. Buderus makes vent mufflers ask your wholesaler.

With the grand trophy homes we put boilers in these days bring that chimney up to snuff, and never here from it again.

    I prefer Reillo w/ Buderus.......

of course I prefer Reillo oil burners period. Better parts, adn almost always quieter than other options in my opinion. Of course I realize certain applications of other can be quieter, w/ boxes over the burners, etc.. The BF Reillo is very quiet. (You don't have to need a wall vent, or post purge to use the BF burner)
Then again, quiet is a realative term. Compared to what? Buderus/Reillo combo is at least 4 x's quieter, than say a Weil McClain w/ a blue Angel burner. But thats talking about the extreme opposite ends of the scale.
I would say they are just about the same as the EK-2000 boiler in noise.

    WOW !

Lots of thoughts there my friend !

My guess is that you spent a WHOLE lot more time looking at this situation than we ever could. Thanks for the input. That post will go into the "memory files" as another thing I've learned being associated with such professionals.Makes perfect sense. Thank you. Chris
