Clean and sharp!
nicely done:) you and your buddy twisted a wrench on this one?it looks like it was a bit of a challange.0 -
I wish
I just helped him lay it out. Not even much of that, either.
I'm a desk driver, now. Matt is the real thing. He did it all, with SO00oo much help from his mum, and Barbara, his wife, and the rest of his crew.
Ask him to show you the staircase moulding that the women restored. The pocket doors. The stained glass.
Ask him who did the tile....
It's all Stunning.
This is how he works in other people's houses, too. I've been there, with him.
Yes, this is Mad Dog Matt Sweeney's own house. He's about to move in, and he deserves it.

Home Sweet Home
I wish I could have a nickel for every tasty malt beverage that will be consumed down by that mighty boiler plant. I've already had a few down there, look forward to few more when the home is 100%. I am sure you and the family will love the new homestead for many years to come.0 -

Hey Mad Dog
Exterior is still one of the most unique I've ever seen--the list of styles I see there is incredible, but it all seems to work to make a whole. Any idea of the history? Built that way? Architect? Original owner directing the builder?
Built-ins/woodwork look great!
Rads are awesome!
Be proud of your tile job!
Plumbing/pipefitting? EXQUISITE!
Only one beef. The exposed brickwork in the kitchen does not have historic precedent. When someone has to continually clean the brick/mortar dust below they'll know why... If I remember past messages correctly that's not an active chimney.
I think semi-gloss waterborne polyurethane would seal the brick/mortar without too much change in appearance, but I would try it first in a small space.
The artist of the house might want to dry brush selected bricks first with black, white, and various reds/browns using acrylic artist paints...0 -
What a great time we live in.
Keep it up Matt!! The progress will motivate you even more, the pics are looking great!!
Murph'

You where definatly missed in Baltimore brother. Hunt was pretty quite, no gifts this time, although if he had picked out of the parade .....
Looks like you've spent the weekends pretty busy and have done a top job. The Dog house looks great. Matter of fact I think the next wetstock party should be at Your Place. Hmmmm, Hey Murph .....
Keep up the hard work, it looks great.
Scott

I've been told it is called a Country Victorian. The Victorian porch & Gingerbread will have to wait until We can afford it. What other styles do you see? The home was built around 1896-1898 by the Polish Farmer Charles Wendolowski. He also helped to build the local Polish Church down the block in 1903. He grew pears and still had the last remnants of the orchard on the two plots next to mine up until the late 50s. There are a couple others like it in town...probably was the same buidler. Dan's brother in l,aw and nephew did the tile...they are the best you'll ever see and I found them on my own after seeing their work.. When they came to look at the job and saw my steam boiler the asked if I ever heard of Dan Holohan?????? Heard of him I said, he's a good friend and he was standing in this boiler room 2 days ago!!!!!! small world. Exposed brick......Maybe no historical precedent in this house, but I've seen the exposed brick in many an old farm kitchen. This house had large coal stoves on each floor of the house for heat, originally. Steam came a few years later. But the kitchen where that exposed brick is, had the large coal stove in use for cooking and heat up until the mid 1940s ( corroborated by the grandson) I wonder where that went???? I will definitely coat it...Scott mentioned a product too...I'll have to ask him again. That chimney had 2 flues...one is active with gas boilers the other I am leaving available for the occassional coal stove use. Mad Dog

What a \"Lucky Dawg\"...
Beautiful work, Matt! We missed you in Baltimore, but after seeing the (almost) finished product of your labors, it makes missing a good time worth it. You can be truly proud of what you've done! If that's the "Dawg House" WOOF! WOOF!0 -
The bay at front that continues through the main roof is VERY common in 2nd Empire. No mansard roof of course, but think of the "Psycho" house...
The cupola-like thingie (sorry can't think of the proper word for that shape) was fairly common in Italianate, 2nd Empire and true Colonial.
The multi-sided porch was extemely common in Queen Ann, but the overall massing of the house is much more rectangular.
The hip roof and general massing remind me of Colonial Revival, but Colonial Revivals usually had shed dormers. The gable dormer(s) on the side(s) [brain not working right today--not sure if "gable" is the right type of dormer] is quite common on Queen Ann, but they usually follow a hip at one side of the roof.0 -
the phrase is \"full gable\"
for any two sided angled and miterd roof line - i think - maybe0 -
Boy o boy Mike, you ARE hardcore in to this stuff
very interesting. Mad Dog

The cupola
was as much functional as ornamental. That was how they kept the house cool in summer- gravity circulation up and out! This explains the big trapdoor and all the windows.
