Trinity Installers

Notice to installers of Trinity boilers. I love these little boilers and have installed several of them and plan to install many more. But please look at the attached photo. I walked into a boiler room where I installed a Trinity about 1 1/2 years ago. It was blowing flue gas into the room and had leaked condensate all over the inside of the boiler. The smoke hood, as they call it, has a stainless steal collar riveted to the top of it. This is where the PVC exhaust clamps on. The sealent on the seam was totally gone. This is shown on the right of the photo and is one of their early models. They have since changed the design to a flange and gasket, shown on the left. The local rep. was great and brought a new part to the job site plus gave us a spare to carry on our truck. Just wanted to alert everyone who may have installed one of these early models.

    Hi Dave
I had that problem with the early ones as well.Unfortunatly there were some bugs in the beginning but it looks like the problems solved and I think it's a great boiler.

    Bugs?

    CO is not a bug.

That is a major PROBLEM folks! Blowing flue gas into a home can kill someone.

They better get that fixed pronto!

Anyone that has installed one of these better go back and check it. I ain't kiddin'.

    Trinity

I have used these boilers and found that the new gasket on the heat exchanger listed above still will develop leaks of combustion gas and have decicde not to keep using them they are noisey and will create vibration on high fire , was told by the factory rep to just silicone around the leak with high temp silicone . what a great idea ???

    Trinity reliability

How noisy are they? Is reliability an issue? I'm looking for a new heat sources for my house and am considering Trinity and Munchkin T series. Any preference.

the trinity and the munshkin have the same heat exchaneger built by a european company , them they add there control sysem to it the munchkin may be better on the extras though I have not seen one yet in canada , look at viessmann or the ultra boiler for better relialbility

    Trinity

If you are going to base your opinions on the old trinitys the its your loss. They were one of the first and paid for it with some problems with them.Mark don't think for a second that I don't think that CO is a hazard but I'm not going to condemn a manufacturer for having a problem and then fixing it promptly.I decided to stick with them through the growing pains.I've had no problems with recent installations. You can now size the system to your needs with the new Sentry controller. The only vibration issue I've seen has been an installer situation such as improper support of the vent. Also the Trinity has a longer warranty on the heat exchanger than the Vie$$mann.

    Good Luck

    I'm surprised...

Did NTI not send out a bulletin describing the problem and offering customers a free upgrade? It's one thing to use home-owners as beta-testers, it's another thing to potentially kill them.

While having a spare HX on the truck is nice, I would have liked to think that NTI would actually know who their customers are and then make an effort to get the units fixed ASAP. Maybe I shouldn't be a businessman?

I have not had any viberation problems. As for the leaking gasket, that troubles me. I need to go back and check all my installations. Believe me, my local rep and supplier will hear about this.

    Trimty

There have a large number of Munchkins installed in Canada over the last 5 years, which is longer than the Trinty product, and there are major differents,
Nron i do not know were you are located but I am sure there is a installation close to you.

    Trinity boilers

We have put a few Trinitys in 2003. One vibrated, mounted on an inside wall. Biggest problem was the venting at -35C. The suckers would shut down, if we disconnected the air intake at the boiler, they would fire up immediately. Our distributor indicates a possible preheating of air intake design change may be forthcoming.
Don't get me started on Veissman, they may be a good boiler but unless you have a parts warehouse across the street, stick with what ever the local distributors are supporting (supporting by laying in parts into local inventory)

    Support

yes always look at the support of the units to be installed ,should last and does last are different thing and if you cant get parts you could be in big trouble , no will wait 1-3 days for parts without heat , that wont fly and its not fair to your client ,

It is hard to collect on a warranty if your dead!

or if the company has to go under because of a wrongfull death lawsuit! Viessmann my be more money but how many posts have you seen saying "I have a Viessmann problem" if or when they need parts [many years after other brands] it is not 3 to 4 days to get a part. One of the biggest reason that Viessmann boilers are so much more is the time and money that gose into R&D in the lab where it belongs, not out in the field. I looked at one the other day, it was 12yrs old and the only part that had ever been changed was the very common Honeywell igniter that you can get anywhere!! Not any of the Viessmann parts! You do get what you pay for.
