Let me know if you agree.

If everyone in the country had to write their own checks to the various agencies, i.e., IRS, FICA, state, local, etc. every quarter for taxes, there would be a revolt in less than a year. Our governments make it too easy to pay our taxes. Most people, I would bet, don't really examine there paychecks close enough to know we, as citizens, are getting screwed.

I'm willing to wager, there would be much less tax money spent on studying the enviromental impacts by the mating habits of the South African tsetse fly while under the influence of caffiene from Juan Valdez's South American coffee bean.

Can you tell I just left my accountant's office (g).

    Also it would help if

stats were provided monthly on the number of Gov't agencies in existance, their purpose, how many employees in each. Add to the monthly list the number of people on welfare, any sort of gov't assistance or disability. Also the amount of money the US sends to foreign countries to help in their little wars, the amount of money the US spends each month in the our little wars and let's not forget the US corporations taxes not paid.

The mind would boggle at the numbers and we still have 42 million people with no health insurance. And you wonder how the small business guys can survive.

    We have created a monster!

    Don't Answear the door!

Jeff the next knock on your door might be a federal agent to take you in for questioning. If this does happen tell your wife to call me and I will take your place at Wetstock. Then will help to try and get you out.

    Doug and Heatboy,

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that if the money were spent like it was a BUSINESS, it would go alot further. The politicians have to beg, borrow and (yes!) STEAL, to get money for their "pet projects", that are being run by their biggest contributors.

You know how to tell when a politician is lying?.... Their lips are moving! If they weren't leading the good life until they were elected, they certainly learn how to do it THEN. People will bend over backwards and then some to please the "gravy train" that has become the government.

The SAD truth is that people that go into political life, thinking that they are going to make it better, find out all too soon that if they don't "play the game", they'll be the next ones out on the doorstep . File this under "Sad but True".(To mention the fact that most politically motivated people were LAYWERS first, seems to be a moot point. They learned the "game" in law school, and will continue the practice till the people revolt)

JMHO, albeit a bit strong. Chris

Of course they make it easy....

to have taxes taken out......thats why they did it that way...most all people have no idea how much is taken out or how much the employer pays....we should push to have the way taxes are payed changed....at least here in NH there is still no income tax....kpc

    The most telling...

thing that you can look at is "Tax Freedom Day". This is the day of the year when the average American stops working for the government and starts working for themselves. Last time I knew it was some time in May... and getting later every year. It is indeed a crime that the governments(federal, state and local) of this country take about 40-50% of the working mans wage and spend it on God knows what. As to the fallacy that corporations pay taxes - they don't. They may write the check but you and I pay those taxes every time we buy the goods or services that they sell. The other thing that needs to be changed is the unbeliveably complicated way that your tax bill is computed in this country. I'm a CPA with a masters degree in taxation and I really only scratch the surface when it comes to knowing tax law. Just the IRS code and regulations are 5 (maybe 6 by now) books about 3 inches thick each written on the thinnest paper imaginable. Just think, a single person that did nothing all day long but read what the IRS produces about taxes would still not be able to read what is printed every day - let alone understand it. This is indeed a monster that is out of control. However until you reign in the tax-preparation PACS this system will never change as there is too much money being made (wasted) on tax preparation. It is indeed a crime that the IRS expects you to pay someone to file your taxes electronically. They have the software and only need to build a web interface to it in order to let everyone in the country file their taxes online for free. Do they do this! Of course not, the IRS can't even train their own agents. They hire H&R Block to do that. Is that a scary thought or what? Can ya tell I just filed my taxes and have to wait an extra 4-6 weeks to get my refund because I refuse to pay the electronic filing fee to one of the leaches that do what the IRS should be doing for free. BTW I don't practice public accounting any more and would much rather spend my time running the accounting department of a business rather than trying to out smart the IRS at what they do, although it isn't too hard to do and keep it legal.
