Cleaning a sectional boiler

Is it wise to clean out a sectional boiler with chemicals? I have heard alot of mixed feelings, about it causing a leak, or it not cleaning up well. Were I work, we replace the heat exchangers.

    Creative shapes of brushes

usually gets 90%. I have heard of great results from serious brushing and then fine spray water to get the residual out. I've never done it. But think about it.

90% clean. 10% remaining soot. Fine spray would drool through and saturate the chamber or base. Fire it up. The water flashes to steam and the backpresure from 8 ozs. of water flashing to 8000 ounces of steam headin' out with the normal byproducts...

Might be the right thing to do?

We typically get very creative with brush forms and shapes and then if still in doubt, use a "soot stick" for a last shot.

    Water side of boiler

    Ken,

It can be alot of work, cleaning the boiler flue's. I had one a couple of weeks ago, where the customer must have hit the reset 50 times. It was like tar, we spent several hours, pushing floor dry through the heat exchanger, to soak up the oil. It was a black cloud out the chimney for about 45 minutes. I was refering to the water side of the heat exchanger, for cleaning. I have had the same results when cleaning the flue's, not removing all of it.
